The phrase most often used to describe the Typhoon is "Versatile" (often followed by statements about duct tape and high skill requirements). While its not an easy ship to be effective in, the Typhoon is still one of the most powerful combat ships in New Eden, excellent for fighting fellow players, and useful for Player vs Environment Activities, even if it is less popular than most other battleships.
Player vs Environment
While it is the far less common venue for a Typhoon, it is still an effective PVE ship. With its myriad launchers and gunnery hard points, coupled with a hefty drone bay, there is no threat the Typhoon cannot face, giving it nearly unparalleled capacity to deal with threats.
Player vs Player
The battlefield is the place the Typhoon truly shines. When fully loaded with Tech II weaponry, the Typhoon is a dangerous foe. With its array of slots, it can be effectively used in a variety of ways. Unfortunately, this flexibility prevents it from excelling in individual roles, and is one of the most skill intensive ships in Eve.
Plates and Torpedos
This variant of the Typhoon relies on the sheer annihilating potential of Torpedoes and heavy drones. Because of the higher damage output of missiles than Autocannons, this fit prioritizes missiles over the lower damage Autocannon. The Heavy Energy Neutralizer improves its ability to deal with hostile threats as well. It is advisable to stay out of web range, especially against close range brawlers unless necessary. The Range advantage of torpedoes and Autocannons can turn the tide of many fights.
