Redundant html tags

In between 2 template instantiations I always get a bunch of redundant tags like:

<p><br>
</p><p><br> 
</p>
</p>

I'm creating a screenshot template in a floating div where you can a comment underneath, but they never end up on the same line since there are these tags in between.

How do I add a new alliance to the alliance pages of the EVElopedia?

I have reread the instructions multiple times and I still cannot find it. I want to add our alliance, The NEXUS-Alliance to the EVElopedia, I have permission from our Alliance president, but I cannot figure out how to do it. I get to the alliance template page and then cannot figure out how to post using it. Please help!

Disregard, finally figured it out. Those words/characters at the top of the page need to be explained someplace, not just let us fumble around until we figure them out.
