Security Zones & Security Status

How does the security status affect the gameplay?

Keeping up law and order within the empires is difficult as new solar systems are frequently being discovered and jump gates are being constructed, adding ever increasing numbers of solar systems that can be jumped to on the chart.

Sectors the empires have found of special interest tend to a high security rating, with patrols policing those sectors for known criminals and enemies of the state. Unfortunate individuals with low security standing who stumble upon any of those patrols will be attacked by the patrols without questions and without mercy. Imperial police craft also have low tolerance for any aggression within their sector, firing upon anyone who starts a fight. The right to defend oneself is considered absolute, so returning fire once fired upon by an aggressor will not result in the wrath of the police, nor reduce the security status. It must be emphasised that the individual who opens fire first is considered the aggressor. Bear in mind that self-defence only gives you the right to destroy the attacking player' ship. Once that has been done he is no longer a threat and thus if you attack his pod, you are committing a crime yourself and will be punished. Attacking a member of a corporation/gang is regarded as an attack on the whole corporation/gang, meaning that gang members can assist each other if they come under attack, without the risk of losing security rating.

As a result of the increasing size and numbers of corporations and alliances, the great empires have turned a blind eye toward conflict between them so long as war is declared and waged in a legal manner; i.e. the appropriate waiting periods are observed and non-combatants are left unmolested. The security rating of corporate/alliance members is unaffected as long as they fire only on players belonging to the enemy organisation.

Sectors have different security ratings. While those with high security rating are swarming with patrol craft, those with zero security rating are rarely visited by empire authority. Sectors with low security include sectors of limited strategic importance, newly discovered sectors and sectors which act as "buffers" between empires. These sectors are often claimed by corporations who govern the sector as they see fit. Empire controlled sectors with low security rating will rely on sentry guns to uphold minimum law and order and these will destroy anyone who attacks other pilots or the sentry guns themselves.

Between those extremes of high and zero secure sectors are a large number of sectors with security standing somewhere between high and low or safe and unsafe as some people choose to call them. High security sectors are usually a considerable distance from the zero rated ones and in between are sectors that gradually go from high to low security. Systems that are rated 0.5 secure are viewed as the borders between imperial space and lawless space. Once you go into 0.4 or below, you will not be protected by CONCORD, though sentry guns will still be active around stations and stargates.

Examples of criminal offenses:

  • Destroying a law enforcement craft
  • Pod Killing civilians
  • Destroying civilian craft
  • Attacking law enforcement craft
  • Attacking civilian craft

It is worth mentioning that the above applies in all Empire space, certain 0.0 systems included. It is only in non-Empire 0.0 space that one can commit a crime and completely get away with it.

Security Status and Traveling Restrictions

How does my security status affect my ability to travel?

Security status, or lack thereof, can have a big impact on your ability to travel through the EVE universe.

Here is a brief list of your travelling options according to security status:

  • Players with -2.0 or worse cannot enter 1.0 systems
  • Players with -2.5 or worse cannot enter 0.9 systems
  • Players with -3.0 or worse cannot enter 0.8 systems
  • Players with -3.5 or worse cannot enter 0.7 systems
  • Players with -4.0 or worse cannot enter 0.6 systems
  • Players with -4.5 or worse cannot enter 0.5 systems
  • Players with -5.0 or below = KOS (Kill on Sight) in all empire systems

Once your security status reaches -5 you are considered an outlaw and can be attacked by players anywhere without CONCORD intervention.

Players with negative ratings can fly through all systems in an Escape Pod, as CONCORD are not quite ruthless enough to attack pods, but if your rating is -5.0 or below then you are easy pickings, as anyone can target and destroy your pod without repercussion.

How to get above 5.0 Security Status

Requirements & Recommendation

It's possible to get above 5.0 by doing some one-time-only missions. In order for this to work,

  • You require 5.0 sec status; and access to Caldari and Amarr high security space.
  • You cannot have -5.01 standing with Caldari or Amarr or the faction navies will attack you.
  • It is recommended that you have Fast Talk trained as high as you can.

Once you meet these requirements, make use of agents listed below.

Christer Fuglesang

System/Station: Autaris VIII - Moon 5 - CONCORD office

He will give you a mission. You need to go kill the Drone Energy Succubus; it is a large collidable object.

  • Only Tech 1 frigates and Rookie ships may enter the mission. You may also be sent to a low security system.

Warp to the mission, no rats will be present. Soon as you fire on the Drone Energy Succubus; backup will be called in but they will spawn 50km away. The goal is to destroy Drone Energy Succubus and warp off soon as it dies. Turn in the mission and your Security Status will be 5.0+

Jeremy Tacs

System: Mandoo

This agent is far harder. First you must use scan probes to find him in the system.

Hint: He is within about 1au of the star.

This mission has 7 rooms. The first 6 rooms are fairly easy to tank. The rats in the missions are drones. The final room is another thing.

The Drone Mother fires lasers and citadel torpedoes at you. While Lazron Kamon is a Mercenary Commander with Drones. Including Cruise missile and Sentry batteries. Passive omni shield tanks are suggested.

Drone Mother can be killed (good firepower assumed) but her destruction is not necessary for completing the mission.

  • Lazron Kamon has a chance of dropping Gist C-type mods and domination mods.
  • Turn in the mission and your security status should be 5.9-6.1 depending on your Fast Talk skill.

Final Note

You cannot ever commit a crime of piracy ever again if you wish to keep your security status at this level. These 2 missions are 1 time only.

Commander and Officer NPC's

It is also possible to gain above 5.0 Security Status by killing large volumes of Commander (e.g Dread Gurista's) Pirate NPC's or Officer NPC's (e.g Mizuro Cybon).
