Overview

Insurgency was a primarily PvP alliance formed in Venal (edit - Actually to be honest the alliance was formed while in Fountain and was done so that CELES could enter the alliance tourney, but later after the move to Venal CELES was joined by CORP1 Allstars and others and that is when the history of INSRG that is posted here sort of begins, to be fair. - X.W.) and active from 2007 to mid 2008, which successfully managed to conquer a large portion of Branch against greater odds. Internal strife and the ability to make large quantities of enemies eventually led to being steam-rolled by the Northern Coalition when they arrived home from their excursion to the South during the Great War.

In it's time, Insurgency managed to build one Ragnarok class Titan, and would generally field a fleet of between 50-200 pilots (largest fleet 250).

General History

Formed by Celestial Apocalypse, lived out of NPC space in Venal (region) where they grew strong enough to successfully launch a siege on Branch (region) whilst the Northern Coalition were deployed in Delve (region). Were removed from Branch (region) after threatening to siege RAZOR moon mining operations and ignoring final warnings from Morsus Mihi. After seeking surrender and being refused the alliance made the decision to close it's doors after a major theft with one pilot running off with a lot of players their personal assets that he was supposed to jump out.


War History

There was always an order behind the chaos of Insurgency, and a series of plans discussed months before they were carried out by senior officers. The grand plan was always to fight, and never to hold space and carebear. Every time an objective was achieved, the next plan was already well underway and wars were never far apart...


"Operation Foothold" (The 304-QS Constellation)

After settling in to Venal in PF-QHK and expanding it's playerbase, Insurgency started to discuss potential targets and expansion. After much deliberation, the 304-QS constellation was chosen to establish a stronghold for further incursions to Branch and surrounding regions, as well as offering a formidable foe with which to engage in combat.

The occupiers of the 304-QS constellation at the time the war began included Stella Polar, Combined Planetary Union, Giant Space Amoebas, and Phoenix Allianz. Along with these four main opponents, Insurgency was also forced in to a war with Phalanx Alliance and Majesta Alliance. On paper, Insurgency had more members, however in the field, the opposing alliances nearly always outnumbered the Insurgency forces, an impressive feat considering all occupiers of the 304-QS constellation were alliances and corporations in their infancy.

The deciding battles of this war were fought in the sole entrance to the 304-QS constellation from the JE7-F2 constellation between the AH-B84 and J7YR-1 systems, where both forces would regularly field fleets over 200.

After weeks of fighting, Insurgency members managed to deploy a single large faction deathstar in J7YR-1, which would become the figurehead for the operation. Costing well in excess of 3 billion ISK to initially put up, the POS gave Insurgency a main area to base attacks from, and gave opposing forces a huge juicy target. The next two weeks involved daily battles around this POS, with it being nearly constantly reinforced...

Eventually, Insurgency forces managed to begin breaking in to the target constellation and reinforcing hostile POS due to a better distribution of members through different timezones. The coalition had no choice but to surrender the constellation and move out.

During this war, relations between the Northern Coalition and Insurgency weakened, however the NC would not act, as their main combat force was in the South participating in the Great War against Band of Brothers. Once the dust had settled, Insurgency forces would get less than two months to prepare for the next offensive...

"Home Defence" (The 304-QS Constellation)

Less then a month after the 304 was conquered by INSRG, the NNC (New North Coaltion, the group of smaller alliances the space was taken from, plus some extras) attempted to take it back. The initial assault on AH-B84 resulted in INSRG pos's being reinforced and NNC ones anchored. INSRG was taken a bit off guard by this but quickly rallyed in the system for defence.

The US timezone for INSRG is ultimately what enabled INSRG to repel the would be invaders, the NNC having a poor showing in the US TZ allowed INSRG to rep pos's effectively during this time. 'Osprey army's' were a common site during the US TZ repping the INSRG pos's.

The first major battle occured around the J7YR-1 gate in AH-B84, in which a fleet of roughly 130+ INSRG pilots came up against 200+ NNC pilots. The resulting conflict left the NNC holding the field, and once again, INSRG pos's were reinforced. Only to be repped by the US TZ again.

The next few battles proved crucial for INSRG, with the NNC making some bad errors and the INSRG fleets capitalizing and being able to take apart the NNC fleets, resulting in a noticeble drop in NNC numbers. One such error was not getting caps out of the system in time before INSRG was able to 'rape cage' the main NNC pos that capital ships had logged off in. This resulted in several capital kills resulting from capitals logging in to find bubbles keeping them from entering the pos.

Still being just out numbered or matched in fleet size during euro tz ops INSRG made slower progress in the Euro TZ. The majority of NNC Pos's were destroyed during US TZ. One such Pheonix Allianz Large Minmatar Deathstar pos was destroyed by an INSRG BS+Support fleet numbering about 70-90, this pos kill took well over an hour, and INSRG forces were fairly dumbfounded by the total lack of NNC opposition to this iiregular method of destroying a pos.

Shortly after all NNC pos's were destroyed the NNC forces completely withdrew from the 304-QS constellation. The total time for the Invasion to be dispatched was roughly a week and a half. With AH-B84 being the most contested system, some pos's in HB7 were also re-inforced, though this did not cause any problems.

"Operation Hotdrop" (The XPBM-F Constellation)

Following the successful campaign of "Operation Foothold", there was a differing of opinions in Insurgency leadership. Some leaders wanted to continue the job and assault Stella Polar and Phoenix Allianz in their territories in the center of Branch, whereas others wanted to expand towards Deklein and attack Pure. Once both plans were drawn up and sitting on the table, it was decided to attack the XPBM-F constellation.

The plan was much more straightforward than the previous campaign, and involved jumping in to the heart of the enemy constellation with a half dozen deathstars, and taking the space by force. Once Insurgency showed it's intentions for the constellation, the hornet's nest was stirred. The show of aggression unified Insurgency's enemies in to a large coalition of alliances involving but not limitted to:

- Giant Space Amoebas
- Phoenix Allianz
- Phalanx Alliance
- Majesta Alliance
- Pure.
- SMASH
- Roadkill
- SRBI
- IRON

This new coalition managed to field forces over four times the size of any Insurgency fleet, and after less than two weeks, all Insurgency forces and structures had been removed from the target area. Not only would this campaign become the biggest defeat for Insurgency yet, but add countless more alliances to rise up against the insurgents.

Luckily for Insurgency, a number of the alliances withdrew shortly after the assets in the XPBM-F constellation were destroyed. If they had stayed, the 304-QS constellation would have been steam-rolled. In the following weeks, Insurgency forces would fall back to the 304-QS constellation, and build up their fleet ready for their next campaign. During this 'downtime', the hostile alliances staged multiple attacks on the newly aquired space, but they would all be repelled by superior defensive tactics.


"The Insurgency War" (The E-312G and KWCZ-A Constellations)

The Northern Coalition's campaign against Insurgency in the closing months became known as "The Insurgency War". From an NC perspective, this war raged from April 14th, 2008 to May 12th, 2008, however it began with Insurgency's expansion in to central Branch.

The Attack

The plans to attack central Branch had been laid down well in advance of the previous campaign, but had lay dormant for months. When put in to action, the results were swift and deadly. Initially, the system of Z-K495 was taken as a foothold, which would cut the coalition in two, with Stella Polar and Phoenix Allianz (the main two alliances at this stage) inside the E-312G and KWCZ-A constellations, and the other aggressors in South Branch and Venal.

Initially, massive defensive forces were present, however in a similar vein to Insurgency's first campaign, one massive deathstar POS would stand the test of time and repel wave upon wave of enemy attacks. Eventually as the attacks died down, Insurgency forces began expanding to the other systems of these constellations.

During this time, the NC became less and less happy with Insurgency forces. BKG-Q2 was owned by Morsus Mihi, where a lot of the coalition hostile to Insurgency would use as a staging area. This meant that a lot of fighting went on in Morsus Mihi's home systems, and blue-on-blue 'accidents' were not uncommon, particularly where expensive haulers were concerned.

After taking both constellations and removing the defending alliances, Insurgency forces were once again free to enjoy peace-time. Unlike the prologue to previous campaigns however, no further campaigns were being planned... Only the defense of the newly acquired space... Insurgency leadership knew exactly what was coming...

The Defence

Less than a month after the fighting had stopped from the attack of central Branch came word of a shadow on the horizon for Insurgency forces. The NC, having been repelled from the South after failing to remove BOB from their home space, now turned their eyes closer to home, where Insurgency had outgrown their welcome.

In the largest battle of Insurgency's history, over 1200 aggressors began to descend upon Z-K495, where just 250 Insurgency waited... Calling in all the stops, Insurgency leadership managed to gather an extra 50 people from other alliances to help defend the key system to central Branch. As the NC forces drew closer, the Insurgency fleet moved in to place. Having the advantage of a cyno-jammed system, Insurgency were fielding the largest capital fleet they could muster, with around 50 carriers sat close to the BKG-Q2. The rest of the fleet was made up of around 150 sniping battleships and 50 support (with friendly alliances bringing in an extra 50 support). As the NC forces drew closer, Insurgency forces started saying their last goodbyes...

The NC gathered around Z-K495, with a fleet of 500 in BKG-Q2, and a second fleet of 500 in 0P9Z-I. A further 200 ships went missing (reported logged off) after meeting a fleet of 80 Phalanx Alliance, who had just been turned blue to Insurgency, but could not make it to the area of attack, so were running interferance. A further 150 capital ships were also reported waiting nearby ready to jump in when the cyno-jammer was destroyed. Over 30 minutes passed with no movement from either side...

Eventually, the NC forces made their move, jumping 250 in from each gate to Z-K495, however this massive load on the servers caused enormous lag for both sides, and all but a dozen Insurgency carriers and the Insurgency sniper fleet became lagged out and did not see anything on screen. After 10 minutes waiting, Insurgency pilots began to see hostiles decloaking on both gates... With 100 snipers on the 0P9Z-I gate, and 50 snipers and a dozen Carriers on the BKG-Q2 gate, the massacre began to ensue. Dozens of NC ships were destroyed without a single scratch on an Insurgency ship, with very few NC pilots able to load the grid. Insurgency Capital ship pilots began to get over the lag as they logged out and in slowly.

Seeing that the battle was being lost, NC commanders ordered the rest of their fleet to jump in (possibly to attempt to crash the node and start again), but this only made things worse for the NC , lagging more players out. Insurgency forces by this time had managed to deal with the lag, and were most fighting in a lag-free (apart from 2 minute module lag) environment. The end result was a catastrophic loss for the NC, losing well in excess of 600 ships, while Insurgency sustained less than 100 losses (including only one capital ship loss). Unfortunately, no killboards exist any more with these details as the kills and losses have been erased from all NC boards. Whilst the motives were always hazy in regards to why this mass jump-in occurred. The simple truth is the NC fleet and its commanders did not wish to start the campaign with a dreary stalemate, due to the nature of the 304-QS constellation such blockage busting maneuvers were seen to be a necessary evil

Following this massive initial victory, Insurgency forces began a desperate campaign to keep the Z-K495 system Cyno Jammed and camped by a larger group of carriers, it has been proven during the Mercenary Coalition campaign in Branch that a coordinated group of a dozen or more carriers with fighters deployed could adequately lag the jump in of hostile fleet, allowing it to be picked apart without any real return fire. This strategy initially worked but NC persisted and eventually broke the carrier camp and downed the cyno jammer. The NC began making daily incursions to Insurgency space with fleets of over 100, which Insurgency could not survive against. At this time, Triumvirate and Insurgency formed a coalition known as 'Trisurgency' which, for a time, managed to repel some of the NC attacks and kill an NC Titan flown by Intensity Green of RAZOR Alliance in D4R-H7 solar system. Triumvirate's assistance was shortlived however and ultimately culminated in the loss of the then CEO Darknesss's Nyx Class Mothership.

Whilst Triumvirates participation slowed the NC's advance it was too little, too late for Insurgency...

A number of Insurgency corporations took it upon themselves at this point to move out of 0.0 and/or leave the alliance, while other core corporations including The Littlest Hobos remained and continued with the defense. Not two weeks later when the NC attacked QCWA-Z with a fleet of 300, Insurgency could field less than 150 to defend, and the decision was made to retreat to Venal.

During the evacuation of Branch, a large number of capital ships were lost due to poor planning and constant NC camps (with the NC refusing any form of standings to allow Insurgency forces to retreat). This was in part due to a large portion of Insurgency leadership going inactive, and the handing over of Executor from Celestial Apocalypse to Corp1 Allstars, with darth solo stepping down as the leader of Insurgency, and C4W3 taking the reigns.

This change in leadership was not met with approval by all of the remaining member corporations and some decided to leave for this reason, among them some of the most active fighting and FCing corps. In addition to this, many older leaders stepped down in the restructuring, and Insurgency FCs and leaders dwindled...

During this evacuation, a major theft of assets totalling at over 60bil would take place, as one member called Jotram was contracted items from nearly every member of Insurgency in order to move them out with alts that resided in the NC. This member accepted all of the contracts, then left the alliance, posting a thread on CAOD pertaining to the theft, "Insurgency, Im sorry".


"Back to Venal" (The Last Days of Insurgency)

Insurgency forces fell back to Venal where the alliance was born, with many leaders now inactive, and player corporations leaving at a rapid pace, the Insurgency dream was all but over. A couple of the corporations would join up with the remenants of Triumvirate in order to form The Requiem in Curse, including Celestial Apocalypse, Corp1 Allstars and Game-Over. Other corporations would linger for a while and eventually follow other pursuits.

Insurgency was officially disbanded after a post made by Dacovale, entitled 'The Insurgency is Over.' The alliance remained in existence for several months after this, then closed it's doors for good...


Recent Activity

More recently, Celestial Apocalypse tried to re-create the fun they had in Insurgency by forming the alliance Resurgency, which was active in Fountain from 2008-09 to 2008-12, disbanding due to internal politics.
