How the EVE mail system works.

If private conversations and public channels are most widely used for direct communication between online players, the EVE mail system stays the best choice to exchange non-instant text with offline characters.

The mail panel may be opened by clicking on the third uppermost window on the left NEOCOM panel; this icon will blink everytime a mail is received.

The main window contains three areas:

  • On the left column, you will see all the character names who sent mails.
  • When clicking on a character line, the right column will update with the complete list of the received mail topics, sorted by date.
  • When selecting a mail topic, the bottom part of the window will be refresh with the mail text body.

To send a mail, press the "new message" button on the top of the panel. To delete a received message, select the mail topic you want to remove from the right column, then click the "Delete" button.

In addition, several tabs are available on the top of window, depending on how many mailing lists your character subscribes to (please refer to the "Channels and Mailing lists" article for more details).

Several general mail and communication properties may be configured by right-clicking on the "Inbox" tab and selecting the "settings" option:

The "Default access" box configures the standard behavior of your communication system.

  • If set on "Allowed", the default access will allow everyone to send you messages and mails at will, except for the entities filtered by the "Blocked" tab.
  • If put on "Blocked", you will receive no instant messages and mails from nobody, except from the entities filtered by the "Allowed" tab.
  • If set on "CSPA Controlled Messaging", everyone except the entities filtered by the "blocked" tab will be able to contact you, but they will have to pay the CSPA charge selected in the second box just below. The entities filtered by the "allowed" tab will be able to contact you without paying the CSPA.

As explained before, the "Allowed" and "Blocked" tabs (not to be confused with the "allowed" and "blocked" settings on the "default access" window) allow you to filter the mails and messages you receive per entity. An entity may be a player, corporation or even alliance.

Hint: Keep in mind that if in "blocked" mode, you will be unable to receive any form of communications at all from other players, not only mails, but conversation and general chat as well except if they belong to an "allowed" entity.
