This page is largely intended for use by players new to EVE, to help them get better  acquainted with the terms that older players will use when speaking in game.

| [[0.0]] || 0.0 (literally, "zero-zero"), sometimes also referred to as null-sec or zero-sec, is the security rating [[CONCORD_(Mechanics)|CONCORD]] gives to all [[STAR|star]] systems outside of Empire influence. They have a true [[Security_Status|security status]] from 0.0 down to -1.00. 0.0 can also be used to collectively refer to the entirety of lawless space. See also "lo-sec" and "hi-sec".

| ABC || Refers to the rare 0.0 ores, [[Arkonor]], [[Bistot]], and [[Crokite]].

| Aggress, Aggression || Performing an aggressive act against another pilot, such as firing upon them, repairing a pilot's ship who is aggressing another pilot, using a smartbomb that damages another pilot's ship, creating a warp bubble that prevents a ship from warping, stealing from another pilot's wreck or can, etc.

| Aggressed || A pilot's state after performing an act of aggression. This state lasts 60 seconds. While in an aggressed state, pilots are denied permission to dock or use stargates.

| Alpha (strike) || The instantaneous [[Damage|damage]] dealt by a single volley of guns.

|  AP ||  Autopilot
|- 
|  Alt ||  Alternate character on a player's account or an alternate character that a player uses on another account. Alts are typically not as exhaustively trained as the "main" character unless on a different account. Can also refer to every character owned by a player, except the one generally associated with them.

|  [[Ark]] ||  Common abbreviation for Arkonor ore, but in a different context can also refer to the Ark jumpfreighter.

|  ATB || Alloyed [[Tritanium]] Bar

| [[Aura]] || The onboard computer that helps to introduce EVE to new players via tutorials. Also voices certain audio prompts.

|  AURORA || Auxiliary Union for Relay, Observation, Recording, & Analysis (Events). Formerly part of [[ISD]].

|  BH ||  Bug Hunter. See also "[[ISD_ECAID|ECAID]]".
|- 
|  Bist ||  Bistot ore
|-
|  Blob || A word used to describe numerical superiority for [[fleet|fleets]] and is often used negatively. Can be used as both a verb and a noun.
|-
|  Blinky || AKA flashy. A pilot who has committed a recent act of aggression or has a security status of -5 or lower will blink red in the Overview. Pilot's ship can be fired upon without interference from CONCORD or sentry guns. See also "[[Kill_Rights|kill rights]]".

|  Blood jump || The process of a pilot jumping to the location of their medical clone, either by deliberately being podded or by activating the self-destruct mechanism of their ship. Useful in emergencies but expensive if the original clone was fitted with augmentations (implants). Acquisition of a new medical clone is required after blood jumping to avoid loss of skill points due to a future instance of podding.

|  Blue ||  Term describing set standings towards other pilots/corps/alliances who are friend/friendly/ally. Comes from the default Overview "Show Info" colour of blue background with "+" sign in front. Light blue is for standings of around +5, dark blue for a [[Standing|standing]] of +10.

Bubbles are used to prevent [[Ships|ships]] that are caught within range of the bubble from warping away, allowing attackers to more easily destroy their target.

| Bubbled || A gate, [[Station|station]] or other high traffic area where a pilot or [[Gang|gang]] has deployed a bubble. E.g., "Careful! That gate has been bubbled!" See also "bubble".

| Camp, camped, camping || An area, generally a gate or station, where a gang of players is waiting for the purpose of attacking passersby and/or war targets. Gates at the transition points between low security and 0.0 space are often camped by pilots hoping to catch travelers unaware. Pilots who are part of the camp are said to be camping. See also "[[Gate_Camp|gate camp]]".

| Can ||  Refers to cargo containers jettisoned by players, secure or otherwise.

| Cap ||  The [[Capacitor|capacitor]] of a ship.
|-
| Caps ||  Cap ships AKA Capital Ships. Generally refers to combat capital ships, Dreadnoughts, Carriers, [[Motherships]] and Titans, although two Freighters (the [[Orca]] and [[Rorqual]]) are also technically caps.

| [[Carebear]] ||  An adjective for players who avoid [[PvP]] combat. Also a verb for [[PvE]] activities.

|  [[CCP]] ||  Crowd Control Productions (AKA your friendly overlords, the creators of EVE Online).
|-
| CCC || Pilot has activated a [[Cynosural_field|cynosural field]] and capital or other jump-capable ships should jump to the pilot. Often used in fleet chat when dropping capital ships on opponents.

| Clone || A pilot's body, either in use or in storage somewhere in the EVE universe.
|-
| [[CEO]] || Chief Executive Officer. The person in charge of a player corporation.
|-
| CJ, Clone jump || The process of moving from one jump clone to another. This can allow travel across the EVE universe in the matter of moments instead of hours. (see "[[Pod|pod]] jump" and "blood jump" for differences).

| [[CONCORD_(Mechanics)|CONCORD]] || The NPC police force of [[New_Eden|New Eden]]. CONCORD responds to criminal acts committed in 1.0 to 0.5 security space.

| CONCORDED || Losing a ship to [[CONCORD_(Mechanics)|CONCORD]]. See also "[[Suicide_ganking|Suicide Ganking]]".

Displayed in third-party tools like EVE Fitting Tool and considered a useful way to quickly determine how long a ship will last under fire.

# "For the Loss". Generally used to denote a failed attempt or something bad happening.

| FTW || "For the Win". Generally used to denote a successful attempt or something good happening.

|  Gank, ganking || Refers to a tactic employed in [[PvP]] combat in which one side is heavily outnumbered by the other. Differs from "blobbing" in that ganking usually refers to smaller-scale battles.

| Gate camp || A gate which is being camped by players for the purpose of preventing others from entering or leaving an area, extorting ransom for safe travel, or for the simple pleasure of "ganking" passing ships. Often gates in busy low security systems are camped, as well as gates which transition into 0.0 security space. Often, gate camps are "bubbled" to prevent victims from escaping. See also "camp" and "gank".

| [[Gamemaster|GM]] || [[Gamemasters]] are CCP staff responsible for providing [[Customer_Support|customer support]] for [[EVE Online]], as well as enforcing the [[EULA]] and [[Terms_of_Service|TOS (Terms of Service)]] of [[EVE Online]]. They can be reached through the in-game petition system.

| GCC || Global Criminal Cooldown, or Global Criminal Countdown. A timer indicating the player has performed a [[Criminal_Flagging_System|criminal]] action in Empire space. Displayed as red text in the top left corner of the display.

| GF || Good Fight. Used to indicate acknowledgment/honor to another pilot during PvP.

| Griefer || A griefer is a player who plays in order to irritate and harass other players, rather than in pursuit of game objectives.

|  Hardpoint || A slot on ships in which only a specific type of module can be placed. Usually refers to slots for weapons, such as ''turret hardpoints'' or ''launcher hardpoints''.

| HW || [[Heavy Water]], a type of fuel.  [[Starbase]] towers consume an amount of Heavy Water based on how much CPU they utilize. HW is also consumed by a [[Rorqual]] when it has activated its [[Industrial]] Core.

| Kill rights || When one pilot performs an act of aggression against another pilot, the other pilot is given kill rights and may fire upon the aggressor without interference from CONCORD or sentry guns. Pilots to which kill rights have been assigned flash red in the Overview, and will be listed under the Character Sheet/Kill Rights tab.

|  KM, Killmail ||  The notification a pilot receives when they are killed, or when they kill another pilot and strike the final blow. Found in the [[Character_Sheet|Character Sheet]]/[[Combat_Log|Combat Log]]. See also "Killboard" and "kill rights".

|  Leeroy || The act of charging ahead into danger without care, usually resulting in disaster for everyone in the fleet or gang. A tactic that is sometimes as successful as hull tanking. This slang has come across from [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LkCNJRfSZBU Leeroy Jenkins] of World of Warcraft.

| LO || [[Liquid Ozone]], a type of fuel. Starbase towers consume an amount of Liquid Ozone based on how much Power Grid they utilize. Liquid Ozone is also consumed when generating a cynosural field, activating a [[Clone_Vat_Bay|Clone Vat Bay]], or when activating a [[Jump_Bridge|Jump Bridge]] at a starbase.

|  Lolfit || A very poorly fitted PvP ship, with [[Modules|modules]] wildly inappropriate for the role or bonuses of the ship in question.

|  [[Nbsi|NBSI]] || Not Blue, Shoot It. Usual engagement policy of corps/alliances in 0.0. "Blue" refers to having positive standing. Everyone else is considered as hostile by default, even those with neutral standings, and can (and often will) be shot on sight.

| Neutral, Neut || Term describing a lack of standings toward pilots/corps/alliances. Neutrals in lo-sec and 0.0 security space are usually treated as if they were "red" and hostile.

|  Nocx, Nox ||  [[Nocxium]]

|  Noob || Depending on context, a new player or new character. Used as an insult (friendly or otherwise) between experienced players.

|  Noobship ||  One of the four starting ships, being the Imparior ([[Amarr]]), Ibis ([[Caldari]]), Velator (Gallente) and Reaper ([[Minmatar]]).

| NPC || Non Player Character. If it isn't controlled by a human, it is an NPC. E.g., rats in belts, missions, etc. Corporations which are not controlled by humans, such as a pilot's starting corporation, is called an NPC Corporation. [[NPC_Corporations|NPC Corporations]] run NPC Stations.

|  NPSI ||  Not Purple, Shoot It. Somewhat of a joke stance for picking targets to shoot at. Based on the default overview colour of gang-mates, purple. "Anyone who's not in gang is legal target." See "[[NRDS]]" and "[[NBSI]]".

|  NRDS || Not Red, Don't Shoot. An engagement policy of corps/alliances where "red" refers to having negative standing, leaving neutrals as "shoot only after being shot at". More usual in [[Low_Security_Space|low security space]] than in 0.0, due to the greater number of genuinely friendly/indifferent neutrals in areas of higher population. See also "NBSI".

|  OOC  || Out Of Character. A roleplayer may say "OOC: I'm bored" to mean "In real life I'm bored but I'm not speaking for whether my character is or not". See also "IC" (In Character).

Pirates generally make ISK by destroying other pilots' ships to recover modules or salvage, as well as demanding ransom for passage. Corporations that specialize in piracy are often called "pirate corps".

|  [[PLEX]] || 30-Day Pilot's License Extension cards can be purchased on the [[Market|market]] to extend account play time. These are usually GTCs purchased by a player using OOG currency and then put into the game for sale to others for IG currency.

|  Pod Jump || The old way to move around fast, from deep 0.0 to [[Empire_Space|empire space]]: self-destruct pod to relocate to the medical station. See also "blood jump".

| Safe spot || A bookmarked location in space which is not readily accessible by hostile pilots, and is often used as a means of temporarily escaping said pilots in the current system. See [[Safe_Spot_Bookmarking|Safe Spot Bookmarking]] for more information on creating and using safe spots.

| Safe up || The act of warping to a "safe spot" when hostiles arrive in system. Often heard shouted by friendly pilots as a warning that hostiles just entered or are about to enter the system. See also "safe spot".

|  SC || Squad Commander, a position in the fleet structure. Lowest commander position, below Wing Commander. Under it is only 10 pilots, one squad.

|  Sec status || Security status. The CONCORD ranking of how secure a star system is, displayed as a value from 0.0 to 1.0

| Stront || [[Strontium Clathrates]], a type of fuel. Strontium is consumed by a starbase when it enters reinforced mode. Strontium is also utilized by capital ships for various modules including Siege, [[Triage]] and Jump Portal Generators.

| [[ISD_STAR|STAR]] || Support Training and Resources - (Player Support), part of ISD.
|-
|  Soon || This is CCP's motto for upcoming changes to EVE. Usage: "When is xy change coming?" Answer: "Soon." Originally used to poke fun at features long promised but not delivered, but since adopted by the developers to describe upcoming content without a specific release date.

|  [[Spider_tank|Spider Tank]] ||  The use of remote repair to allow a fleet of ships to tank incoming fire. Allows for far more tank in a large fleet than any ship could manage on its own. See also "RR".

|  SSS || Used to indicate a pilot is in a [[Safespot|safespot]] and that the fleet can/should warp to the pilot.
|-
|  Suicide ganking || Killing outside the strict bounds CONCORD set in hi-sec space results in a police response on those responsible for attacking. Suicide ganking is deliberately killing another pilot knowing CONCORD will destroy the aggressor's ship just so the aggressor can loot the target. This is normally done by a gang in order to get enough damage on the target in the time it takes for CONCORD to respond.

|  T1 || Tech Level 1. These are considered the basic items EVE and are generally characterized as having blueprint originals available for sale by NPC Corporations.

|  [[T2]] || Tech Level 2. These are considered advanced items which have certain benefits over their Tech Level 1 counterparts. Blueprint originals for Tech Level 2 items were previously only available via a lottery but can now only be purchased from other players. The most common method of [[Manufacturing|manufacturing]] Tech Level 2 items is via blueprint copies obtained through Invention.

|  [[T3]] || Tech Level 3. Current Tech 3 products are the Strategic Cruisers introduced in the Apocrypha expansion.

|  [[Tackling]] || Pinning down an enemy with a Warp Jammer/Scrambler or Webifier until reinforcements arrive.

| Tier-3 || These are [[Battleships|battleships]] which were added after the initial Tech Level 1 and Tech Level 2 battleships. They are technically considered Tech Level 1 battleships. The Tier-3 battleships are the [[Abaddon]] (Amarr), [[Rokh]] (Caldari), [[Hyperion]] (Gallente) and [[Maelstrom]] (Minmatar). Not to be confused with Tech Level 3.

| Topes || Isotopes, a type of fuel. Helium, Hydrogen, Nitrogen and Oxygen Isotopes are used to power capital ship jump drives and are used as fuel by starbase towers.
