History

Early Life

Born Mikhail Da'Veer, the capsuleer who would call himself "wurblewind" was

the second son of renowned University of Caille archaeologist and Talocan expert Dr. Gerard Da'Veer and his wife Annatalia. As his father was often away on expeditions and digs, Mikhail spent most of his time with his mother and his older brother Rafale while growing up, and the two brothers often found themselves working the spacedocks of their home, the Trossere VII-3 branch station of the University, where his father's office resides. Between loading cargo for a living, and working night security in some of the port bars, the boys became strong and healthy young men, able to hold their own in a fistfight, and an unbreakable bond between them was forged. It was at this point in their lives that tragedy first struck.

In January of YC109, while waiting on their shift at the bar they worked for,

the brothers found themselves helping their on-duty co-workers handle a mess of crewmen from a mysterious battleship that had berthed earlier that day. Just as the boys nearly had things under control, a whistle put everyone at attention as a sinister Jin-Mei man entered the room, carrying a sword traditional to his people and sporting data uplink jacks the length of his body. Mikhail and Rafale knew a capsuleer when they saw one, and this one held the markings of the Crimson Dragons, a small time pirate operation of the day. He ordered his men, the crewmen causing trouble, to be released, and the two brothers brought forward. By ill chance, their mother had arrived when she heard of the trouble, and was taken instead, dragged out into the street to be brutally executed by the pirate. He then splashed mutagenic acid onto both boys' faces, permanently damaging them straight to the genes: wurblewind himself is still scarred where the acid splashed, as the damage to the skin DNA was too severe to allow skin to grow properly, and his left eye never forms, he uses an augmetic. The boys spent the night in the station medical ward, and returned, only to find the pirate had sailed on.

Life In The Corps

Thirsting for vengeance and justice, the Da'Veer brothers enlisted in the Federal Navy Marine Corps, training for the day that they would

board the pirate's ship and avenge their mother. Before leaving, they met with their father, who had returned home. He gave each of his sons a piece of equipment to help them: Rafale received a sawn-off double-barreled blastgun, an invention of Gerard's friends in Duvolle Labs; Mikhail, a saber made of a strange black-green metal and reinforced with fullerene nanites, whose origins Gerard kept to himself. Artifacts in tow, they left for training. Two years would pass before either of them would return to Trossere. Both brothers specialized in sabotage and boarding tactics, and became famous in their unit for bravery, ingenuity, and skill.

The marine years were hard, but they toughened Mikhail into a well-tempered blade. While serving, he discovered his natural talent for

unconventional tactics, utilizing ambush tactics and traps to outwit and thin his enemies' ranks, before closing rapidly and tearing the survivors apart. He was able to predict the movements of enemy forces and was responsible for the plan for taking a massive Serpentis trade hub. Using a twelve man squad, well-placed explosives, including a few of his own design, and a hijacked shuttle, a pirate fortress that should have taken days to assail was turned to twisted wreckage in an hour. Mikhail was awarded the Silver Hook with Laurels, a Corps medal for heroism in the line of duty. He earned another during a skirmish with an independent slaver, who, when boarded, set a battalion of Kameiras on his squad. Everything was set for the brothers' careers to skyrocket, when the Da'Veers suffered their second major blow.

Family Business

On March 3, YC 111, Dr. Gerard Da'Veer's ship transponder ceased to broadcast. Rescue teams who went to investigate did not find a

single trace of his ship, except for a single holoslate with an old family poem. To this day, no one knows what befell Dr. Da'Veer, who had left searching for evidence to a link between the Talocan and Sleeper empires. His sons were devastated. Exactly a week later, the Seyllin Incident occurred, opening up the unknown depths of Anoikis.

The brothers received honorary discharges for their loss. Rafale sought work within the Federal Intelligence Office , and became a

competent field agent, now serving as part of President Roden's personal security retinue. Mikhail, on the other hand, returned to Villore, packed his things, and left for Bourynes, intent on becoming a capsuleer, to find his father and bring the family together again. Shortly before graduation, Mikhail was visited by Rafale, who gave him the blastgun that Gerard had once passed to him. Armed with a capsuleer's license, the blastgun and saber, the dataslate that was the last trace of his father, and the iron will that his family would be reunited, no matter the cost, the capsuleer known as "wurblewind" set out on the sea of stars, to challenge fate and probability.

The War Aginst Nation

wurblewind has put his search for his father on a tentative hold in order to assist in the recent conflict of resurgence by Sansha's Nation.

He is a hardliner against Nation's idea of "liberation" and will go to any lengths to help. In combat, he prefers to fly his Hookbill in support of the fleet against Nation's frigate and bomber support. He also acts as a forward scout, using his exploration skills to scan down threats while remaining undetected. He flies with SyneCord fleets, and as a result, has earned a mutual respect, and in some cases, friendship, with the resistance pilots of that coalition. He has recently joined his friends and allies in The Synenose Accord to better accomplish his goals of ending Nation, and to help in his ultimate goal in the search for his father.

Personality

wurblewind appears at first glance an outgoing and cheerful man, able to laugh an joke with any crowd. Deep down, the events of his pre-

Capsuleer life still scar him, but he keeps it covered around others to prevent spoiling the mood of the occasion. He does not, however, cover his love of battle, and delights in testing his skills in a frigate against the larger vessels his peers prefer. He tries to keep the mood light for his own sake as much as everyone else's, but gets serious when the time comes, becoming a decisive killer with a knack for understanding enemy tactics, as the marine he once was. He is also known to be pensive at times, coming up with the unconventional option, either to be ridiculous and lighten the mood, or to help his peers see another side of the story.

Awards

As a marine, wurblewind was awarded twice the Silver Hook with Laurels, an award among the Federation Navy Marine Corps for heroism

in the line of duty. He is undecorated as a capsuleer.
