Woopatang (Player corporation)
Please note this is a work in progress... Kapital Punishment: The BeginningWoopatang was originally formed under the name "Kapital Punishment". The corp was started by two friends(Guru and Locodekanko) who originally ran a guild in DAOC. The goal was simple: Pew and have a good time. Our vision for fun pew was going to be pirating. We settled down in Derelik and started recruiting. Before you knew it we had a very small group of great guys causing a little mayhem in the Derelik area. We became close friends with Deviance Inc. who was run by Antraxx by first shooting at each other and then later teaming up for some action. We later on ended up joining the Karnal Knowledge Alliance which spent its time operating out of Hevrice as a full blown pirate alliance. Internal issues and needs/wants differences eventually caused Karnal Knowledge to close. At this point is when Woopatang was formed.
Woopatang: The FormationThe idea was brought about to form a multi-gaming group by some old friends. Trying to come up with a generic name that could be used across games the name Woopatang surfaced. The name could be used in any game, and at the same time wasn't too serious which sort of fit the personality of the people involved. As Karnal Knowledge was being put to bed, Woopatang was formed and all members switched over to the new corp. Looking for a new alliance we came across an interesting recruitment thread by an alliance by the name of Destiny. We had never tried our hand at 0.0 before as a corp, so figured why not. We joined up with Destiny. only to find out the alliance was not what we expected.
Deklein: A Day TripWe moved into the Destiny. area to be a bit surprised by the alliance environment. Promises of a pvp were met by calls to dock even if we outnumbered the hostiles 2 to 1. Promises of no fees were met by demands of monthly dues. The leadership had no interest in improvements it seemed and shot down most any effort or conversation that seemed to make sense. Within a few weeks we were fed up and left with a little bit of a bang. Needless to say we had learned our lesson and would choose our next 0.0 alliance more carefully.
The Red Skull: Sure we will take that alliance, why not?Soon after leaving Deklein we came across a recruitment thread for The Red Skull alliance. We looked them over, up and down.. and we had a few conversations with a very persuasive recruiter. They were small, but so were we. They seemed to have the right attitude and overall seemed very like minded. We were invited in, and we decided to go for it. The Red Skull was ran by The Hull Miners Union [ONION] at the time. Moridin Bashere and Kingrizen at the time were running the show. We quickly became good friends with these guys and had lots of fun shooting whatever we could find. Basing out in Syndicate, in the KFR-ZE system provided lots of opportunity for pew. After a few months Woopatang was approached by The Hull Miners Union and asked if we wanted to assume control of the alliance. They did not have the interest in running it any longer, and thought we would be the best fit for taking over. After some debate, we decided.. well what the hell? Worst that could happen is we dont like it and give it up to the next sucker! This was the beginning of an unexpected path change in Woopatang's story. Moridin Bashere and Kingrizen took a short absence from their corp, but within a few weeks were back. Woopatang was running the show, the team was back together, and everything was moving in a positive direction. At this point we started looking at how to expand the alliance and started pushing recruitment in an effort to grow into something larger and more capable.
GRNJ-3 to TXW-EI: Who's idea was this?We took a good look at the nearby areas and decided GRNJ-3 would be the perfect spot to move our growing alliance. There were some players from CHON there and also some from Bombshell Cartel, but nothing we couldn't handle, right?! We moved into the area to slowly find out we were a bit outgunned by the current residents. We ended up becoming good friends with Bombshell after a while, but CHON was a constant battle. During this time period a corp by the name of First Flying Wing started to get more and more involved with alliance leadership and became good friends of Woopatang(membership and leadership alike). A coalition was formed between ourselves and Cosmic Anomalies who were living out of the 0T-AMZ pocket nearby. We started hitting POS's in the area and running ops with them. They did assist in our pocket as well, but the pocket appeared to be getting increasingly hostile. Some disagreements with the coalition caused us to come to the decision to reset the coalition and move on. At this point we decided to move our alliance over to TXW-EI. It was a fun system and close to low sec for logistics and a little yarr, which many of us enjoyed from time to time. We continued recruiting and growing the alliance.
PC9-AY: The Beginning of The End.Once again looking for better options to grow our alliance and improve our position I proposed taking a look at Stain. Note was made that the Huzzah Federation had just moved out of the PC9-AY pocket and that it would make an ideal starting home for our growing alliance. Looked good on paper, so we all signed up for the move. Once we were moved in Huzzah starting moving back in. Some old friends from Thorn came to the area to help and get in on some fun pew. The battle with Huzzah wasnt an easy one, but most of us enjoyed the fights that were coming out of the situation. Some of the newer corps in the alliance were not used to such a hostile environment and they didnt adapt so well. During this time we had lots of great pew, great gangs, great roams, and a few great battles. When Woopatang took over The Red Skull we basically set up the leadership as a democracy. We voted on everything. All the corp leaderships were involved. This is what killed it for us. It was impossible to get things done as time went on. This is when Woopatang learned the hard way that in an alliance, a dictatorship is the way to do it. You will either succeed or fail, but at least you will do one or the other and not have to have a week long discussion about it. :) Woopatang decided to hand off The Red Skull to one of our friends, Sage Eveo of Controlled Chaos, and we left the alliance to move onto something of our own, taking what we learned from this experience, and applying it to the beginnings of a ground up operation. The Hull Miners Union soon after followed suit. Woopatang moved back to Derelik and formed Primary. as the beginning of our new endevour. The Hull Miners joined up. Shortly after First Flying Wing followed suit. Sage Eveo ended up rolling The Red Skull into his own alliance about two weeks after taking the alliance over and closed The Red Skull.
Stain: The Beginnings of Primary. Now we have this new shiny alliance and the interest of Derelik isnt lasting. We decide to follow through with the original plan(pre-PC9-AY) and head to Stain. We work out some standings with Stain Empire and others in the area(C0VEN, Systematic-Chaos, Legiunea Romana) and move into RPS-0K. Within the month The Hull Miners Union decides Stain isn't for them and heads off to do there own thing. This is about the time Mya started running ONION again. Primary. was never intended to grow into a 2000+ man alliance of many corps. The original intention was to have a few corps with more members. First Flying Wing and Woopatang started our growth off and we continued to build up our wallets and recruit getting ready for the next phase(TBD). We did recruit a few corps during this time period, mostly friends of friends. We fought in Stain during USTZ against Minor Threat(who greatly outnumbered us) and Brick. Squad the best we could with our smaller gangs. Overall we did pretty well and we did our best to be good allies to our neighboring blues, helping out whenever we could. Woopatang was flourishing and solidifying its member base. Great Wildlands: Sov here we come! After a few months an opportunity dropped into our lap to go help some old friends of a friend in Wicked Creek. It looked like a fairly big gamble, and although the outlook looked grim for our friends we decided to go for it. Stain was getting a little stale at the time and an adventure sort of sounded like fun. Needless to say before we even got our ships into Wicked Creek, there was no more battle to fight. We were already staged just outside of Curse so figured, well why not call up our old friend The Hull Miners and see what they are up to. By this time The Hull Miners had formed The Gentlemen's Club and were living in Great Wildlands with Cult of War. Initial talks with Mya were about taking some systems in Curse for both of our use, but in the end we ended up moving into M-MD3B in Great Wildlands. There was some sort of disagreement between Sage Eveo (Controlled Chaos) and GC/COW and Controlled Chaos was off to greener pastures making room for us. The alliance was going well and our progress was right on track with our expectations. Chatter was going on in leadership channels about taking space in Scalding Pass(being it was pretty much empty and open to take). We were offered JLO-Z3 but turned it down. We really weren't excited about taking sov at the moment. Then another offer came for 1V-LI2. With Dominion coming out we re-thought our decision and decided to give sov a go to try out the new expansion. Scalding Pass: Burn Baby BurnWe moved into 1V-LI2 and started setting up shop. Most of the ops during this time period involved shooting empty POS's with a few that had a little more action when we helped remove the XXDeath jump bridge system POS's. There was a lot of pressure from GC leadership to get Primary. to merge in with them. Behind the scenes intel told us that GC didn't have our best interests in mind. We knew they had planned on resetting us for quite some time. Watching GC in action with other allies gave us a good insight into how they liked to deal with friends. This was a shocker to many of us as we considered ourselves permanent long time allies with The Hull Miners Union. Other obvious clues made us a bit worried about our position. We decided to separate ourselves a bit from what appeared to be some bad relations, operating more independantly, and began to use numbers to our advantage. This is the point where we broke away from the less corps more members attitude and recruited for numbers. The idea was, the more we had, the harder it would be for them to reset us. :) This may not appear to some to be the best way to handle this, but the leadership knew what we were capable of and believed we could handle the load... and we did. We increased our member base dramatically in a short period of time. Oddly enough everything was working out great. We had regular roams of 50+ and had no issue pulling 200+ man fleets on our own. We killed and got killed, having a blast the whole time.. and we weren't going anywhere. The alliance morale was high and people were having a great time even with the bad politics and crappy blue cards we were dealt. Our FC's were calm and organized, our leadership team was on the ball, and everything seemed pretty good within the alliance. The leadership team took on quite a workload from all of this and it slowly became unmaintainable for us. Most of us were burnt out on it all. The disbanding of Primary. was one of the hardest decisions we had to ever make as leadership because we weren't failing(contrary to popular belief), most people were very happy, and people were still excited and ambitious. Even through a failed campaign in Esoteria morale was very good. For the leadership though it was more then we could handle any longer. The alliance had turned into a full time job for myself and its not what I was interested in and many others felt the same. That coupled with a constant battle with our own blues in leadership channels, I decided to throw in the towel. Some may say.. well what did you expect? I cant answer that. I can only say I think we did a great job and it was a great effort by all the leadership to make something good come together. We did make something good come together. Many a Primary. member will tell you it was some of the most fun they have had to date. After a leadership meeting we decided we were going to disband Primary. There were many options on our table. Being we knew we were going to be back stabbed by some of our old friends(which was huge surprise to many of us given our history with them) we decided we weren't going to just give them the space. :) A few options were weighed and we decided to sell the space to a mutual blue who looked like they could use it. This is where we sold the space to HTA. Unfortunately for HTA, GC/COW didnt like this plan. They hindered the progress of the transfer therefore allowing hostiles to take advantage of the situation. Not even weeks after that both COW and GC moved out and soon after failscaded.
