What does the term massively multiplayer mean?

Massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORG) is a genre of online computer role-playing games in which a large number of players interact with one another in a virtual world.

In the case of EVE, "massively multiplayer" basically means that all players play on the same playing field. Players are connected via the Internet and play in the same game world, where they can meet and interact with other players from all over the world.

EVE is different from most games because in EVE all the players are playing on the same server as opposed to many other games where many servers exist for players to play on.
