Quintrala (Character)
Early lifeBorn in Eram, Catherine Delorois is the daughter of Federation diplomat Philippe Delorois and artist Gabrielle Comtesse. As her father was posted to new diplomatic assignments and the Delorois family moved across the cluster, Catherine was raised in Eram, Pator, Tash-Murkon and Amarr; her nickname "Quintrala" is said to come from her schooldays in Matari worlds. During her time in the Amarr Empire she attended Alliance Gallentoise schools at Federation diplomatic grounds. Graduating from school at age 17, Quintrala moved to Luminaire to live by herself. After a year of independent life, she was admitted to the University of Caille Business School in 104. While an undergraduate at UC Bourynes campus she became engaged to a fellow student, who would become her sole partner under Auvergne law for a two-year renewable contract. Graduating in 108, the couple settled in Clermont, Auvergne, where she would pursue a Master's degree at the neighboring UC Odotte campus while he developed the St. Croix family wine estate.
Life in SpaceQuintrala enrolled in capsuleer training at UC, obtaining her license in 108. As a newly graduated trader-capsuleer she landed a job with Aliastra in Tash-Murkon, while remaining a graduate student with UC in Sinq Laison. The resulting commute prompted her to request assistance from the UC Astronautics department in fitting ever faster frigates, to reduce travel time. This was the beginning of her passion for speed. It is thought that her partner's reluctance to go into space, the long time spent apart, as well as rumors surrounding Catherine and racing personalities have stressed their relationship. By late 110, there are no records of the couple's union being renewed after the 2-year period, although they remain cordial and are often seen together when in Auvergne. Catherine obtained her graduate degree from the UC Gallente Business Entrepeneur Elite programme in April 111. For the first time in over 2 years as capsuleer, she joined a private corporation.
Racing Career109 YC: The RookieBy mid-109 and out of a dare, Quintrala joined the ISGC Racing League late in Season 2, competing in only a few races and finishing in place 11 overall. Catherine and fellow students Lief Siddhe, non-pilots Gina Ducasse and Braxton Gantt entered a UC racing team for Season 3. The informal venture proved an unexpected success, with the UC racer A Wing and A Prayer -designed by Ducasse, built by Gantt and his friends, and piloted by Delorois- capturing the frigates championship undefeated.
Team CaptainAt Siddhe's suggestion, the team decided to go professional for Season 4. Backed by the UC Business School, UC Astronautics/Laboratoire Astronautique Gallentoise and sizable sponsorships by Khanid Innovation and the Quafe Company, they recruited new blood and former rivals and, with Quintrala as Captain, entered the interceptors division as Scuderia Caille (SC). After a painful adaptation, she went on to achieve 3rd place overall. Unbeknownst to the rest of the league, by the end of the season she had struck a secret cooperation deal with one of her major rivals, twice-champion Kayleigh Jamieson-Read and the Dragonstar Racing Team (DS).
110 YC: Merger with DragonstarStarting early 110, Season 5 saw fierce competition and, under Captains Kay and Quin, both racing teams achieved very close integration, cooperating in secret for the duration. Jamieson would get the 2nd place overall and Delorois, 4th place. Nevertheless, they had set the stage for future seasons, developing new tactics, fittings, eventually announcing the merger into the new Scuderia Dragonstar (SDS) team (with Jamieson as Captain and Delorois in charge of PR) and bringing together the Dragonstar racing experience with the Caille flair and creativity. Quintrala is credited with cheering both teams onwards after their first major setback: the Season 5 Race 10 bloodbath (ISD: ISGC Racing League Season V round-up) cost the team nearly ISK 2 billion in fines and a replacement high-grade Snake implant set to an aggravated rival team. Critics allege that SDS had no obligation to pay until a public statement by Delorois committed the team into a huge debt. One way or the other, the team worked tirelessly and delivered as promised before the start of the next season.
111 YC: Second ChampionsipSeason 6 saw major changes to ISGC with the departure of Gyra Rho and subsequent implosion of the League organization. Quintrala joined fellow racer KillJoy Tseng in maintaining the League alive under the new ISRC banner, becoming League spokeswoman. During Seasons 6 and 7 she refused to quit racing, intentionally avoiding League work that would prevent her from racing. It was during Season 6 that Catherine Delorois achieved her long-time ambition of becoming interceptors champion.
Third Championship and RetirementSeason 7 saw Quintrala occasionally race in the less popular Assault Frigates class, achieving an early lead thanks to SDS team-warp tactics. Capturing the attention of the League, the class grew increasingly competitive late in the season, forcing her to rely on increasingly unorthodox tactics. The Season finale was an all-out speed duel between SDS and VRT, with Quintrala controversially using a jump clone to leapfrog ahead of the pack and ultimately beat Kurosawa's interceptor by a mere 48 seconds. Winning the crown to Assault Frigates Champion, she became the first racer to ever win in each of the three official racing classes. Stating "I have achieved all I ever dreamed of in racing," Quintrala announced her retirement from the track and her next step as a full partner in the ISRC Organisation for the 112 racing season. However, due to organizational reasons at ISRC and personal, planetside commitments, the 112 racing season did not take place.
113 YC: Return to the trackThe return of Gyra Rho to the racing scene and the creation of the New Eden Racing Association (NE-RA) led to a revival in racing. By then, close friends Jamieson and Delorois had pursued divergent professional paths, having both left the Dragonstar Corporation, which inevitably led to the split of the team due to cultural incompatibility between their new employers. Kay Jamieson led team Dragonstar Reawakened (DSR, a subsidiary of Re-Awakened Technologies) as Captain while Quin Delorois revived Scuderia Caille as its manager and CEO of the same corporation. It was not long before the teams started cooperating again, with DSR focusing in Interceptors and SC in Frigates and Assault Frigates during NE-RA Season 1.0, although Delorois firmly declined to come out of retirement. The advent of NE-RA Season 2.0 saw Scuderia Dragonstar reappear as a team, managed by Delorois and led by Jamieson as Captain. Unexpectedly, Quintrala appeared in the SDS Frigates roster for race 1; persistent rumours indicate she only agreed 30 minutes before the official start to the season. Piloting her prized Season 3 racer A Wing and A Prayer, she joined the race only to have both her ship and capsule destroyed by militia at the Amamake waypoint. The shock of such loss was enough to make her withdraw from a race for the first time in her career. However, after a week's recovery time, she was back on the track with a new clone and ship joining her team to attain second place in race 2. Race 2 was to be, however, the last of the season as a bookmark abuse scandal unravelled, involving respected racing personalities. The acrimonious dispute between VRT management, favouring pre-race scouting, and those teams in the League against, resulted in the League cancelling the season and closing its doors. As of this writing, Quintrala's next steps are unknown. She remains CEO of Scuderia Caille but has made no indication of her plans for the corporation.
