The Neocom panel, by default, is located along the left side of the EVE game screen. It provides access to the tools that you’ll need to control your life within the EVE Universe. The panel housing the Neocom tools and buttons can be maximized or minimized by holding and dragging the edge of the Neocom panel.
New Features
The Neocom has been updated with the release of Crucible 1.1 in the beginning of 2012.
Navigation
- Resizing the Neocom
- Users can resize the Neocom by dragging the right side edge of the Neocom itself
- Avatar thumbnail
- By hovering over the avatar thumbnail, users see their character's name and click the thumbnail to open up the Character Sheet
- Skill Queue
- Below the avatar thumbnail there is a progress bar that shows the progression of the current skill being trained. Hovering over it will show the name of the skill in a tooltip window and clicking on it opens the Skill Queue
- Chat
- By default, the Chat window is available right below the skill queue progress bar in the Neocom
- Users can click the Chat icon and get a list of active channels
- Create Group
- Users can create custom groups in the Neocom root by right-clicking on the EVE Menu ('E' Icon) at the top of the Neocom
- Users and put any icon from the menu root, or the EVE Menu into the custom groups
At the top of the Neocom there is a new EVE Menu ('E' Icon) where all menu options can be found. The root of the Neocom acts as a shortcut bar and users can move icons around, delete them from the root and add new ones from the EVE menu. No matter what is done to the root, the EVE Menu always has all the options available to users through the Neocom. Users can only remove, add and reorganize icons in the root menu, the EVE Menu index is always the same.
Users can drag icons from the EVE Menu to the root of the Neocom which will create a shortcut for it.
Interactions and feedback
All active windows will be displayed in the Neocom root even if they only exist in the EVE Menu when closed. The root acts as a shortcut and overview for all windows that are open. If more icons are displayed than can be shown at once they will be moved into a 'More' Menu that shows other icons in a sub menu when opened. Icons that point to menus that are currently open will always have a certain 'Open' state to indicate they are already open.
If the user clicks an icon for a window that is already open it will put that window into the front if it was behind other windows, but if it is already in front it will minimize that window.
Icons that show looping highlighting effect are asking for the users attention because of an update. For example if the user gets a new message through EVE Mail. This can be turned off in the Esc Menu.
Tools & Buttons
- From here you can manage everything about your pilot including skill training, attributes, implants, and jump clones. It also has a record of all of the ships that you’ve killed or been killed in. The most important item in the Character Sheet is the skill queue. To access it, look at your skills, then click the skill queue icon. It’s here that you’ll tell your character to learn new skills.
- This is your tool for navigation across New Eden. People & Places lets you create and organize your bookmarks, see if your buddies are online, and search for locations. You can add bookmarks (places in space that you want to remember) and set your autopilot to go to any bookmark you have previously saved.
- This allows you to send & receive EVE mail to and from other players. To prevent spamming, you can set a mailing fee of up to 1 million ISK for people who are not in your corporation to send you email. Likewise you would have to pay this fee to mail others not in your corporation. It is customary to drop this value to zero if you plan on joining fleets, as no one wants to pay money to invite someone to a fleet. Certain game events will also place mail in your inbox, such as the insurance payout on the loss of a ship, the need to refuel a POS, etc.
- This gives you access to what is fitted on your ship, what is in your drone bay and what is in your cargo hold. You can use it to build custom ship packages (ship plus loaded modules) that you can save for reference later. When in space, this tool can also be accessed by pressing CTRL-SHIFT-F. When docked, this tool may also be accessed from the station services if the station docked in provides that service.
Please note: This button may be relocated to the sub-menu of the Services button.
- This is the commerce hub of New Eden at your fingertips. Near-anything that can be looted, manufactured, salvaged or stolen can be found for sale here. Use the Market to find modules to purchase to fit to your ship, or ammunition for your guns. If you have excess inventory, like modules from NPCs you’ve killed in the asteroid belts, sell them here for quick ISK.
Please note: This button may be relocated to the sub-menu of the Services button.
- From here you can manufacture or research jobs and monitor their progress over time. Existing Factories and Research facilities have been upgraded with Next-Generation equipment, allowing for remote management of all jobs as well as opportunities for further specialization with new Starbase structures. This new specialization resulted in the creation of Starbase Factories and Labs in addition to other new manufacturing necessities.
Please note: This button may be relocated to the sub-menu of the Services button.
- This is a player-driven mechanism for characters and corporations to formalize work agreements with each other, including auctions, item exchanges, loans, and courier contracts. Unlike the Market, items placed on contract via the Contracts tool are visible in all regions. However, in order to bid or claim them, you must travel to the region in which they are located.
- A powerful tool no pilot can live without. All manner of information about the entire universe is at your fingertips. Accessed either by clicking the map button in the NeoCom panel or by pressing F10, you have your choice of a 3D or 2D (flattened) view of the galaxy. Every single dot on the map is a system. Typically, via the star map pilots choose their flight paths in accordance with travel, but can also do other things such as locate facilities or even choose a prime target to take down like a complex. The map is a very complex tool, and more than one pilot has gotten confused with all of the colored dots and lines. It is worth your time to read about the map and understand at least the basics. It can save your ship, and potentially your whole fleet’s existence!
- This gives you ability to manage and interact with your corporation. It includes information about the corporation you belong to, limited information on other members, corporation assets, and a wide array of corporation management administrative tools.
- This shows you where all your assets are located across New Eden. Often, players have ships, items, and minerals in more than one location. If your assets list becomes unmanageable, there is a search function which will let you find any item you own by entering its name or the first three letters. This function can be especially useful to traders who need to locate and pick up items for which they have placed orders. Many also find the Assets tool useful for navigation, as you can right-click and “set destination” to allow you to set the autopilot to find a route to that location.
- This shows how much ISK and shares you own, bills you have to pay, a journal of transactions, a list of all open buy/sell orders, and a list of your recent monetary transactions. If you are a member of a player corporation, and have the appropriate rights, you can also see and manage the corporation’s finances from here, too, from the Corporation tab.
- This allows you to see what open fleets are available for you to join. You may find open fleets if you are a member of a faction, a member of a corporation, or a member of an alliance. It will not only tell you if there are any fleets available to join, but gives you the ability to join one and where to head to meet up with the fleet.
Browser
- The in-game Browser gives access to various types of in-game information, including the EVElopedia. It’s also a full-featured (but not Flash® featured) web browser. It can be very useful to watch a YouTube® video tutorial on EVE while actually flying your ship!
Please note: This button may be relocated to the sub-menu of the Accessories button.
- This provides a way to track four different areas of information: agents, expeditions, contracts, and the epic journal. Under the Agents tab, you can track what missions that have been offered to you or that you are currently running, which agents are currently performing research for you and the status of that research, and the number of loyalty points you’ve earned with each NPC Corporation after completing missions with that corporation.
- This plays all the soundtracks in EVE. You can add your own MP3s to the playlist by using any number of third party utilities. These utilities are acceptable to use, but are neither sponsored nor prohibited by EVE.
Please note: This button may be relocated to the sub-menu of the Accessories button.
Accessories
- This opens a sub-menu which may contain the Browser , Calculator , Jukebox , Log , and Notepad buttons. Entries may be added or removed through the configuration section of the Neocom. By default the following tools can be found under Accessories:
- CALCULATOR – this can be very handy for calculating all manner of things such as how much ore is needed to manufacture an item, how much profit one will make on a trade, etc.
- LOG - This is where all game messages, notifications, combat actions, etc., are stored for further reference. Players can look up all their stored actions until they either Jump to another solar system or dock at a station. The Log window will reset its contents and save the old logs to a file on your hard disk (default: C:\My Documents\Eve\Cache\Gamelogs\). When saved, they are named by date and time to be easily recognizable.
- NOTEPAD – just as it sounds, it’s a place to keep your notes. Cut and paste interesting text items that you want to remember and reference later.
- Each Militia is in a state of perpetual war with its two main enemies – Amarr and Caldari are both at war with Gallente and Minmatar. Pilots in New Eden are independent of the fighting, but may wish to become allied with one of the factions. To learn more about the factions, click the Militia Office. You can even join a faction here. Be warned, however, that joining a Militia puts you at war with the enemies of that faction. If you join the Minmatar Militia while in Amarr space, you are already behind enemy lines, and may be killed on sight!
Please note: This button is only available when docked at a station or outpost with a Militia Office service.
Please note: This button may be relocated to the sub-menu of the Services button.
Services
- If your neocom is configured to do so, this button opens a sub-menu which may contain the Fitting, Market , Militia Office, and Science & Industry tools. Entries may be added or removed through the configuration section of the Neocom.
This gives access to the EVE Help tools and extensive tutorial options.
- SUPPORT – You can open a support ticket to help you through program issues that you may be having. It allows you access to the game’s knowledge base and you can file a Petition here to address problems that may have occurred. Career Agents can also be reviewed and located through this tool.
- TUTORIAL - The tutorial is essential for any pilot’s success and will guide you through the basic processes of the Eve universe. This tool also provides an easy-to-navigate list enabling you to directly choose tutorial topics of immediate interest to you at any point during your play.
- When docked, displays all your ships located in the current station. Through this window, you can assemble new ships and switch between them when necessary. This item on the Neocom is not available when you are in space.
Please note: This button is only available when docked at a station or outpost.
Please note: The Ships window will appear in the station panel if the “Merge “Items” and “Ships” into station panel” checkbox is selected on the General Settings Tab of the ESC Menu
- When docked, displays all of your items and modules located in the current station’s item locker. This item on the Neocom is not available when you are in space.
Please note: This button is only available when docked at a station or outpost.
Please note: The Items window will appear in the station panel if the “Merge “Items” and “Ships” into station panel” checkbox is selected on the General Settings Tab of the ESC Menu
