Sisters of EVE 2008

"The Sisters of EVE is an organization mainly known for its humanitarian aid efforts to those suffering because of war, famine or even just being lost in space." For Fanfest 2008, the Sisters of EVE have extended their efforts to the unsung heroes of EVE: Friends and Significant Others.

We realize that not everyone coming to Iceland in November wants to discuss the intricacies of ship fittings or market dynamics, so we are offering a two- day package of activities to make the trip worth while for the partners of the players attending Fanfest. We invite players to bring their wives, husbands, boyfriends, girlfriends, or just friends, to accompany them on the trip to Iceland and participate in this excursion. Not only that, but Sisters of EVE pass holders are invited to join in at the Party at the Top of the World on Saturday night!

Friday

T horse.jpgThe adventure begins with a riding tour on Icelandic horses on Friday morning. The Icelandic horse is known to be very friendly, patient and spirited, so little to no riding experience is required, and riding helmets will be provided. After the jaunt outside Reykjavik, it‘s time for lunch and then a bus ride out to the unique landscape of Thingvellir National Park, where the North American and European tectonic plates are slowly drifting apart! This is also the historic location where Iceland‘s parliament Althingi was established in 930. After that, it‘s a trip to view the gorgeous Gullfoss waterfall, which is actually two separate falls that flow and drop into a canyon 2.5km deep. Finally, its time to visit the hotsprings area of Geysir, after which all other geysers in the world are named, and witness the geyser Strokkur erupt almost 100ft into the sky!

And if the weather is too poor for the horse riding, then we will instead trek on the Golden Circle. This tour will visit Thingvellir National Park, the Gullfoss waterfall and a lunch break at the Gullfoss cafe, and the hotspring at Geysir. In addition, there is a stop at Skalholt church, the ancient seat of the Icelandic bishops. We will also take a drive through an agricultural area to the small village of Hveragerði on the way back to Reykjavik.

The tour on Friday, November 7th, departs from the venue at 10am. Check in for the trip will be at the information desk starting at 9:30am. Estimated return time is 6:30pm.

Saturday

On Saturday, its time to explore the northermost capital city in the world. This tour of Reykjavik by foot and by bus will take you in and around the city, and there‘s not enough space to list all the destinations here! View the city from Perlan, a rotating restaurant built atop the tanks that hold the hot water for the city. Visit the Hofði house where the 1986 summit between former president Reagan and former secretary general Gorbachev was held. Take a tour of the old fishing harbor and also a short bus trip to the town of Hafnarfjorður. Walk around the old town center where the Icelandic parliament and the town hall are located. If you‘re feeling up to it, climb the observation tower in the Hallgrimskirkja church. The list of sights goes on, but you‘ll just have to join us to see it all!

The tour on Saturday, November 8th, will depart from the venue at 2:00pm, and check in starts at 1:30pm. Estimated return time is 5:00pm.

There is a saying in Iceland: "If you don‘t like the weather, wait 5 minutes." The average temperature will be about 5°C with chance periods of misty rain. We recommend a rain-repellent jacket or coat. Because the wind in Iceland is renowned for heavy gusts, an umbrella is not always the best option. We also recommend heavy sneakers or boots for riding and walking over the natural terrain on Friday.

Sisters of EVE passes will give you access to the venue all day Thursday in addition to the guided tour on Friday and Saturday, and access to the Party at the venue Saturday night. You can pick up your passes anytime Thursday or Friday at Registration. (If you get your pass on Friday, please allow enough time before departure.)

NOTE: You do not need to purchase a Fanfest pass AND a Sisters of EVE pass in order to participate. However, we do require an accompanying Fanfest pass from your partner, and we will ask for the confirmation number when you register for the Sisters of EVE event. Limit one Sisters of EVE pass per Fanfest pass.

This event brought to you by Iceland Excursions.
