Sentry guns
Sentry gunsHow do sentry guns work?Sentry guns are at all stations and stargates in empire space. (Please note that empire space may include certain 0.0 systems, with sentry guns at all stations and gates there.) Sentry guns will shoot at anyone who attacks an innocent or in some other manner loses security status or faction standing within their range. In 0.6 space and above, sentries monitor a range no less than 150 km from the object being guarded. However, Concord has boosted key sentries to have a much greater range. No details regarding maximum sentry range in secure space are to be made available to prevent outlaws from carrying out raids in secure space. In 0.5 space and below, sentries have a maximum range of 150 km from the protected target. Sentries will fire on the first person to aggress. Every 30 seconds each gun will switch, at random, to a target with a GCC or a flag to that gun's corporation or Navy. Note: this can be the same target as the previous 30 seconds. This includes drones and fighters deployed by the aggressor. Each sentry gun does 56 EM, 56 Explosive, 98 Kinetic, and 98 Thermal damage per hit, and shoots every 1.75 seconds.[1][2] This works out to be 308 volley damage and 176 DPS with no resists. How are gate campers able to camp stargates that are protected by sentry guns?In low-security space, if the gate campers stay outside of sentry gun range (about 150 km) they can shoot at players that are within range without the sentry guns being able to shoot at them. The sentry guns simply can't lock on them if they are out of range. If you are attacked by players who are using this tactic then you can shoot back without the sentry guns intervening; just make sure that the player you are shooting at had fired first. If he only locks you, you will be considered the aggressor if you shoot. Also, if you fight you will not be able to jump for a few seconds, so you will have to choose if you want to fight or jump. You can't do both. If your corporations are at war you can shoot at members of the opponent corporation anywhere without sentry gun/concord intervention. Some players may have ship configurations that are able to withstand sentry gun fire for a certain amount of time. Due to the random re-targetting of sentries after 30 seconds, if a ship can survive 30 seconds there is a good chance the sentries will switch targets, provided there are other pilots aggressed to the sentries. The more pilots who are aggressed, the less likely each pilot is to be attacked. Drones can also be used as "chaff" to distract sentries. I was attacked by player pirates and when I returned fire the sentry guns shot at me. Why?If this happened then the player you shot at had not fired at you when you started shooting. This can happen if two or more players lock you but only one shoots. If you then fire back on a player that still hasn't activated his guns, the sentry guns will see you as the attacker and shoot you. Make sure that you only fire on players who have damaged you before opening fire on them - and watch your missiles.
I think a bug caused the sentry guns to shoot me. How do I get my ship back?If you have read the above and are sure that your loss was caused by a bug, please file a petition and include the following:
GM's will investigate your claim but please note that they can't replace any items unless they can fully verify from the logs that a bug caused the loss. Top Contributors For This Page
