Scuderia Caille is the name of the University of Caille racing team, which participated in the interceptors, frigates and assault frigates divisions of the ISGC Racing League.

An offshoot of the joint Racing 101 course between the University of Caille Business School and its Department of Astronautics, Scuderia Caille has shown that a student-driven sports team can consistently be in the top three in the pro racing league.

The starry banner for Scuderia Caille displays the deep green colours that characterize University sporting teams. The Speed Fairy represents agility, velocity and the drive to go faster, higher, further. The green Absynthe field reminds us that a UC student should not only excel, but also have fun doing it.

We are happy bunch of undergraduates, alumni and faculty willing to teach, willing to learn and eager to push the envelope. Our objective is to have fun and give the other guys a run for their money.

History

Scuderia Caille was founded in 109 as part of a joint UC Astronautics Department/UC Business School course Racing 101.

Course instructors were Dr. Juvaan VESPER, PhD, NPC, head of the Astronautics Department with an extensive record in physics, mechanics and astronautics. Assistant insructors C. DELOROIS and L. SIDDHE oversaw flight training and led the race team under the "Scuderia Caille" banner. Mlle. Delorois, "Quintrala," was the Season 3 champion of the ISGC frigate class and team captain. Assistant instructors B. GANTT, NPC and Dr. G. DUCASSE, PhD, NPC led the technical team for designing, race craft fitting and rigging.

From the course description:

"Racing 101 provides the foundation for high-speed racing on light spacecraft. Students taking this course will learn basic concepts of starship stats, pilot skill sets, command, navigation, fitting, rigging, tanking, implants and boosters. Additionally, students will benefit from valuable real life situations including low-sec and 0.0 travel, market operations for speed modules and parts, invention, combat, gloating, death and clone recovery therapy.

Theory will be imparted in-station by the Department of Astronautics based in Odotte. Hands-on experience is an important aspect of the course as well, and each student will be required to complete a term project under the direction of assistant instructors. Student projects will enter season 4 of the ISGC Racing League as soon as the course starts.

Students will be graded by ISGC on performance as well as by UC on attendance. Graduates of Racing 101 will share in team season prizes. The more successful graduates may expect to join world-class racing teams such as Boosters, Dragonstar, Venture, Zzz or remain as instructors at UC.

Multi-disciplinary enrollment is encouraged, admission is open to graduate students of both capsule-qualified and technical non-pilot-crew (NPC) backgrounds from all races."

During Season 4 the team awarded one credit per completed race. At the end of the season, any team prize would be equally split among credits - the more a student raced, the more she/he would expect to win. Outstanding students would keep any individual prize earned. Regrettably no ISK prizes were won during that season but Caille achieved a firm grip on 3rd place interceptors, as well as a close 2nd in frigates.

Unbeknownst to the rest of the league, by the end of Season 4 Scuderia Caille had struck a secret cooperation deal with one of their major rivals, Dragonstar Racing Team (DS).

Starting early 110, Season 5 saw fierce competition and, under Captains Kayleigh Jamieson-Read and Quintrala, both racing teams achieved very close integration, cooperating in secret for the duration and obtaining the frigates team championship for SC. Setting the stage for future seasons, the teams developed new tactics, fittings, and eventually announced the merger into the new Scuderia Dragonstar (SDS) team with Jamieson as Captain and Delorois in charge of PR.

Trivia

  • Scuderia Caille's original Season 4 lineup had 5 UC students, out of 6 racers; students graduated and after joining capsuleer corporations, continued racing for the team in Season 5.
  • Nickamed The Green Team because of its student and rookie background.
  • Team livery was, in fact, green colored.
  • Was the highest performing frigates team in Season 3 but completed the season with zero points. (ISGC rules at the time barred non-pilot-capsuleer corporations from the corporate competition and therefore UC, each race, consistently earned no points on the team competition.)
