Rigs (lore)
Ship rigs are permanent ship modifications that amplify various ship functions, in much the same manner as hardwirings do for the capsuleers themselves. They are dependable but fragile, functioning only if they are inserted in specially designated slots and falling apart if they are removed.
When first introduced to the market, there were many prototype rigs that were untested. One such rig, designed to increase the speed of a ship, was used by Keral and Selan during a ship race. The rig malfunctioned near the end of the race, causing the ship's guns to fire wildly and making the ship continue flying straight ahead, right into an asteroid. It also caused the ship's shields to fail, as they failed to protect the ship from impact.
