Raven (Fitting)
The Raven and its variations are often considered the 'King of PVE' in EVE thanks to their ability to mount a large number of Cruise Missile and Torpedo launchers, as well as their ability to use a robust active shield tank, allowing them to hit ships of all sizes at all ranges using every damage type if necessary, while sustaining heavy fire. The Raven is sometimes used in PVP as a DPS platform, though often relies on logistics support to maintain its tank. Player vs EnvironmentIn PVE activities, an active tank is often the preferred method of protecting the Raven from damage. It usually consists of an XL Shield Booster, a Shield Boost Amplifier and four Shield Hardeners (usually varied on a mission by mission basis depending on the damage type the enemy is known to be dealing). Ravens are often fitted with up to three Capacitor Control Circuit rigs in order to boost capacitor regeneration, as active tanks can use a large amount of energy. The Raven can mount, and has bonuses towards, Cruise Missile Launchers and Siege Missile Launchers, which are long range and short range platforms respectively. While Cruise Missiles have a very long range (over 250KM with high skills and rigs), they do significantly less damage than Torpedoes (upper limit of around 60KM with skills and rigs). It is possible to mount additional turrets to the Raven for added damage output, but the ship does not carry any bonuses for turret weaponry. Except for the Raven Navy Issue, all variations of the Raven have a 75m3 drone bay with 75m/bits bandwidth meaning they can carry a good selection of drones to assist in missions. Since the Raven should have no trouble damaging large targets such as structures and other battleships, a good idea is to carry 5 Medium Drones, and 5 Light Drones. Medium drones are efficient against Cruisers and Battlecruisers, while light drones are effective against frigates.
PVE fitsPulsed Shield TankThis is the most common fit for the Raven, accessible by pilots with relatively minimal amounts of skill points. Using its cruise launchers and XL Shield Booster powered tank, this fit can grind through most L4 missions without too much trouble. The pilot does need to remember to keep an eye on their capacitor usage, as this Raven fit cannot run its shield booster forever. Fitting a target painter increases the signature radius of targeted ships, allowing for more missile damage to land on the target. Fitting a Shield Boost Amplifier significantly increases the amount of HP boosted per shield cycle. The best allotment of the six mid slots is the pilot's discretion. High Slots: Medium Slots:
Low Slots: Rig Slots: Permanent boosting TankIn opposition to the pulsed shield tank version of the Raven, this fitting emphasizes the permanent activation of the shield booster in lieu of high damage output. It doesn't require the pilot to pay as much attention to the mission, but will inevitably take more time to finish the job. Capacitor use should not be an issue. High Slots: Mid Slots:
Low Slots: Rig Slots: Raven a la LiangThis is an adaptation of the high cost and high skill Navy Raven pulse tank fit created by Liang Nuren. It focuses on damage dealing while still fitting a very respectable tank. It is less costly and skill-heavy than that fit, though good fitting skills are still required. The lower skill requirements and module standard does however mean a reduction in damage done. While appearing to break PVE fitting doctrine by mounting a capacitor booster, the aim is to do enough damage fast enough that its use can be kept to a minimum. High Slots: Mid Slots:
Low Slots: Rig Slots: (based on a fit originally by Liang Nuren) Player vs PlayerThe Raven is a powerful addition to a fighting force. When fit with cruise launchers, the Raven can rain death from long range. With Torpedos, the Raven makes for a potent damage boat, capable of making a ruin of many a ship. While the Raven can dish and take a significant amount of damage, it is not advisable to add tackling to the mix; the Raven has precious few Mid Slots, so keep this in mind when going into battle.
