Nakatre Read (Character)
BackgroundNakatre Read was born as a tubechild in YC 84 on a Lai Dai Corporation station in Silen, as part of a project bearing the same name. Project R.E.A.D's initial purpose was the fine-tuning of Caldari society by preparing improved and more efficient citizens through genetic engineering. Later on during the program, an outside group of investors became involved in the direction of the project. News: SCC probe uncovers wider Angel investment in Caldari companies As influence of the Angel Cartel increased within the project, the direction took a more shadier turn. At least half of the children were engineered for the entertainment industry, whereas the other half became part of a military splintergroup loyal only to the Angels. Nakatre Read eventually ended up in the military group. After exposure of the Angel investment in the Lai Dai project, it was shut down and any remaining embryos were terminated. This was one of the earliest exposures and proved completely unrelated to the massive investigation that happened over a decade later. The head scientist in charge was forced to flee the Caldari State and hasn't been located since. Nakatre Read lost many 'siblings' during the termination of Project R.E.A.D, and only ever managed to locate one surviving sister by the name of Ayane Ichoguwa, who changed her last name as to not be reminded of the dreadful past experience. ChildhoodAfter the termination of the Lai Dai genetics project, Nakatre Read was taken in by Caldari fosterparents, who were dockworkers, at age 6 by order of pod pilot Carmen Langley. Carmen was a Gallentean employed by the Angel Cartel who had the task of guiding the tubechildren to a path of Angel loyalty and employment. Although Nakatre's program was incompleted - she was missing several social skills - the fosterparents were tasked with the education and growth of Nakatre until such an age that she was suitable for work. Aged 18, after living a relative quiet and secluded childhood, Nakatre was abandoned by her fosterparents aboard a Caldari trading vessel. Learning about the future of Nakatre, her parents decided that instead of giving her back to Angel loyalists, she'd have a better and safer life as a merchant. EducationIn the same year, the Caldari merchant by the name of Takuo Kuronen sent Nakatre to the State War Academy to follow a Special Forces training, so that she may act as his bodyguard. At age 22 Nakatre Read obtained her pod pilot license and graduated from the Academy. Life as a PilotShortly after graduation, Carmen learned of Nakatre's whereabouts and inevitably recruited her to a small mercenary outfit. Because of the effects that the genetic engineering project had, Nakatre saw the life of an Angel loyalist as something natural and familiar. Detailed reports about the psychological status during project R.E.A.D were mostly burned, yet a few are known to be in existance. They describe the thought proces of Nakatre and the relation between genetic engineering and undivided loyalty to the Angel Cartel. Carmen was found murdered by an unknown assailant in the Utopia solar system several months later, and Nakatre decided to start her own Angel loyalist outfit. During her time in space she learned of the ISRC League. A racing tournament that proved to be an ideal platform for meeting several underground contacts such as drug couriers and assassins. However, Nakatre also met a legit racer by the name of Kayleigh Jamieson. Intrigued by her open and warm personality, Nakatre sought to be closer to her. It became evident that several characteristics and emotions present within Kayleigh were deeply lacking within Nakatre. She almost felt like a robot talking with the racing champion, and she promised herself that she'd learn everything she could about Kayleigh. Despite being two different worlds, Nakatre and Kayleigh ended up in a relationship. During this time Nakatre's personality adjusted to that of Kayleigh's and mental flaws remnant of her past were slowly corrected. At least half a year later they married, and Nakatre changed her last name to Jamieson-Read, keeping her original name in the equation to prove that opposite worlds can co-exist. Today, Nakatre heads the elusive Stillwater Corporation. The corporation holds strong ties to the Angel Cartel and has even got Amarrian influences. They manage a luxury hotel in orbit as its primary activity. Top Contributors For This Page |
