Born on Reschard V to Doraan and Slenatha Alavandar on YC 69.08.26, Kavin quickly developed computer literacy along with an early interest in astronomy. By the age of 8 he had programmed a small pet and at the age of 12, despite beginning to experience encumbering headaches of an unidentifiable cause, he began university education in philosophy and psychology, as well as privately researching university-level biology. By 15, he fostered an exemplary understanding of quantum physics, and by 16 he had become obsessed with nanotechnology.

Despite seeming to be a Caille shoe-in, by 17 Kavin was suffering debilitating pain and his explosive learning ability had slowed to a point that was no longer extraordinary, but in fact beginning to lag behind, leading him instead into a state of confusion and deterioration. His family life was unhelpful: three grandparents died of incurable afflictions; his brother enlisted in the Gallente Navy and cut all familial contacts; his sister disappeared into the Syndicate; and his first lover, a Deteis woman, was killed by State thugs for daring to consort with him.

Abandoning science and reason, entering into the life of an Ida mystic on Intaki Prime for the next 13 years, by YC 104.11 he was startled and disturbed by what had become of him. He threw off the web of superstition his anxiety had entangled him in, boarded a shuttle to Luminaire, ground three months into 16-hour-day bio/nano research to recover the logical and progressive state of mind he had lost, and entered a queue for CONCORD's early screening for the hydrostatic pod program.

In YC 105.02, he was evaluated in the same class as Maaien Tekern and Tadashi Amaya. Alavandar was finally licensed and immersed into a pod on YC 106.05.28, a year after Tekern and three years before Amaya.

His brother, Donatien Alavandar, was screened, evaluated, licensed and immersed in YC 106.08, yet fell into massive debt with CONCORD in YC 109.06 following illicit transactions, which he escaped by entering himself and all his clones into biomass processing one month later.
