Abstract

The Jovian Empire is the most technological advanced in all of New Eden due to the quick recovery after the collapse of the EVE Gate and their constant pursuit of knowledge. While reluctant to share the theoretical background for their technology, the Jovians are willing to export technological devices to entities outside of the empire. These devices are mainly related to biological and genetic engineering. As the theory behind these devices as such remains unknown, there appears to be similarity in some of the core materials and designs with the ancient Sleeper civilization. This suggests a strong relation between the two, as these materials and designs are little utilized by other entities.

Introduction

Since the closure of the EVE Gate the Jovians has achieved much in the way of technological advances likely due to their pursuit of knowledge and embracement of science. Today, the Jovians are widely recognized as the most technological advanced society in New Eden, a position the Jovians keep by very rarely sharing their knowledge with others. This paper looks into some of the various known scientific and technological fields of the Jovians and compare them with the abilities of some the other ancient societies such as the Sleepers.

Bioengineering

The science that the Jovians are most famous for is their research into biology and genetic engineering. The Jovians saw modification of genes as a way to solve any and all problems plaguing the human race and has been modifying their physical and mental capabilities to such extents that their appearance might seem quite alien to members of other human races.[1] The dark side of this science is evident in the creation of the Jovian Disease which has plagued the Jovian society for millennia and seemingly brought the empire into a state of regression.[2]

The Jovians sell some of their bio and medical technologies through corporations like Genolution[3] and X-Sense[4], but traditionally not for the capsuleer market. That changed in the end of YC113 when Genolution released the Genolution Core Augmentation series.[5][6] These implants utilizes new augmentation techniques not previously seen in the field.[6] It has not been possible to establish to what extent, if at all, the Jovians are doing cooperative business with foreign corporations. It is well known that the Jovians introduced capsuleer technology through the Caldari[7], but if the Jovians have been involved in providing technology for other factions has been difficult to establish. As example is CONCORDs rapid-reaction network used keep capsuleer aggression under control. This might originally be a Jovian invention due to its nearly flawless effectiveness and inability to be copied by other factions, things which are otherwise rarely encountered. Also, the Jovians assisted with establishing CONCORD which might very well have involved providing special technologies.[8]

Starship Engineering

Another advanced field of the Jovians is starship engineering. The number of different identified Jovian spaceship designs is small[9] and it is unknown whether the reason for such a limited number of different crafts comes from superior designs that cover many purposes or, alternatively, that only ships with specific purpose in mind has been shown off to the other empires. The Jovians might have a number of different spaceship types that rarely or never leave the Jove home regions. The performance and deadliness of the weaponry carried by Jovian starships was best witnessed at The Battle of Vak'Atioth where a small Jovian task force defeated an Amarrian fleet numbering 200 ships.[10] The constructing materials used in Jovian ship design are a well-kept secret, but it is plausible that fullerite materials are involved considering the strength of this material[11] and that the Jovians are known to master the techniques to shape these material types when they used them in a Meta-Molecular Transportation Device in YC106.[12]

Discussion and Conclusion

A similarity strikes with Sleeper technology regarding the use of fullerene materials as the components used in construction of strategic cruisers contains many fullerene types.[13] There is also a connection between Jovian technology and w-space on the issue of trinary data as a piece of this was acquired from the wreckage of the Jovian Admiral Ouria's ship in YC105[14] and a second piece of trinary data was destroyed along with the unpiloted ship of Lianda Burreau in the system of J105934 in YC113.[15] This data could possibly be related to the Trinary Hub designated site that can be found in w-space and the Talocan Polestar structure that is residing there.[16] It is difficult to know if this hub is serving the original purpose of the Talocans or has been refitted for purpose by the Sleepers, though recent findings indicate that data located within the Trinary Hub is of Sleeper origin.[17]

Seemingly, the Jovians still hold an edge in technological advancement above of the factions within New Eden and it is even possible for them to conceal how great this edge really is. There are some similarities in Jovian and Sleeper technological fields which brings question to whether it was traded, given or otherwise between the two groups. Further comparison of Jovian and ancient technologies could provide further insight on this issue.
