Ice Ore is mined from ice fields by specialized Mining Barges, which are able to equip Strip Miner and Ice Harvester turrets. Of the six ORE Mining Barges, none surpass the ice mining capabilities of the Tech II ORE Exhumer Mackinaw.

Ice ores can be broadly grouped into two categories: high-security race-specific ores and low-security ores. High-security ores are race-specific ice ores that provide ice products for that race's starbases. Low-security ores are found in low-security and 0.0 space and provide much higher amounts of heavy water, liquid ozone and strontium clathrates.
