Description

History

Please note: This summary of the history of ISLE is written from the point-of-view of a single current member of the corp. As ISLE evolved by fusion of several corps, and the writer has not been a member of each of those corps, there may be parts missing.

The first incarnation of ISLE as a corp was a loose coupling of some real-life friends who started learning to play the game together. This (now closed) corp was called "Increasing Success by Lowering Expectations (ISLE)", with the ticker "ISLE". The name, originally proposed by the player behind the character H05h1, was chosen by some sort of vote among the friends when the corp was created. Jarne was chosen to create the corp and be the CEO just because he the only one "willing" to train the necessary skills Corporation Management and Ethnic Relations. The corp was a pure freelancer corp without any ambitions whatsoever.

Fusion with/into Combine Corporation

Through meetings in Lowsec and chats ISLE made the acquaintance of the Combine Corporation (Ticker "HBO"), which resulted in a fusion of ISLE into Combine. An alt was left in ISLE to keep the corporation name reserved.

Entry into the GUARD Alliance

Not too long after the opening of the new drone regions, Combine entered their first alliance, GUARD, an alliance solely composed of German-speaking corporations that had just built an outpost in the drone regions called "Baumhaus" (tree house). The life of Combine was now consisting of fueling two POSes (one in the outpost system, one for sovereignity in another nearby system), getting acquainted to 0.0 space, ratting for drone alloys, dealing with regular Triumvirate roaming gangs, and occasional gate camps in 0.0 entrys systems.

After GUARD was evicted from the drone regions and finally went down after some unfocused time in Empire, Combine was again without alliance.

Move to the Great Wildlands

At that time, the corp diplomat arranged a residency of Combine in the Great Wildlands, under the protection of the F0undation Alliance. There Combine members made the acquaintance of another German resident corp called "The Four Horse-men".

Fusion into the new ISLE

When it became clear that the two corps where somehow compatible and cooperated successfully on several occasions, it was decided to tighten the relation between the two by creating a new corporation which would absorb both corps. Suggestions for possible corporation names were gathered and in a vote it was decided on the name "Increasing Success by Lowering Expectations", which was one of the suggestions coming from the Combine side.

As the original ISLE corp had become unavailable due to the player behind the caretaker alt having left the game in the meantime, a new corp with the name "Increasing Success by Lowering Expectations" and the ticker "ISLE." was created (the " (ISLE)" part from the long name was removed in comparison to the original corp's name, and the dot was added to the ticker). The new corporation now had a few billion isk in its wallet (the bigger part coming from The Four Horse-men, and also a corporation-owned carrier (also from The Four Horse-men).

Entry into the Free Trade Zone Alliance and move to Wicked Creek

Leaving FTZ for the Enuma Elish Alliance and move to Estoria

Restructuring with focus on PVP and move to Hadozeko Lowsec

Entry into the Star Buccaneers PVP/Pirate alliance and move to Syndicate

Leaving Star Buccaneers for the Gallente Militia and move to Vlillirier Lowsec

Leaving the Gallente Militia for the Vanguard. Alliance and move to Catch

Move to Venal

Move to the Great Wildlands (again)

Leaving Vanguard. for the Ev0ke alliance and move to Syndicate (again)

Leaving Ev0ke and joining the Gallente Militia (again)

Due to some hassle between ISLE and the Ev0ke leadership, the main issue probably being ISLE being too small and not integrating well enough into the alliance, ISLE had to leave Ev0ke. It was then decided to keep a foot in one of the less frequented Syndicate 0.0 systems, and at the same to join the Gallente Militia again to have potential targets in the neighbouring Lowsec systems which could be engaged without taking sentry aggro. At that time, the Caldari militia had already occupied most of the Gallente systems in Factional Warfare Lowsec, and there were no ambitions in ISLE to retake those systems.
