In its early history Huola had something of a reputation as a pirate's haven along with its close sister Amamake. It was strategically located as one of the primary highsec entrances of the Rens to Amarr lowsec travelling route, being the end closest to Amarr, with Amamake being the other highsec gateway towards Rens.

Faction Warfare

In more modern times Huola developed into one of the most important lowsec systems in the regional conflict between the Minmatar and Amarr Militias. After first basing out of nearby Kamela and then the highsec system Tuomuta, the majority of the Amarr militia found itself establishing Huola as its primary system for basing and fleet forming.

More recently, several prominent Minmatar militia corporations, notably those in the Late Night Alliance, have moved wholesale to Huola and made it their primary base of operations, turning the system's Occupancy to the Minmatar Republic and putting strain on the Amarr Militia's operational capabilities. This is largely seen as a response to an earlier, similar move by several major Amarr militia corporations who had moved to Auga, previous home of the Minmatar militia.
