Errors after installing client patch

I get an error installing EVE or applying a patch

If you get errors applying a patch or installing the client such as Checksum Errors ( NSIS error )

There are several ways of fixing this and we'll list them here so you can try them out. The patchfiles are saved by default to the cache folder which can be found by doing the following:

Press Windows Key + R and paste the following line into the Run window.

  • Windows XP: %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\CCP\EVE\c_program_files_ccp_eve_tranquility
  • Windows XP Steam: %USERPROFILE%\Local SettingsLocal Settings\Application Data\CCP\EVE\c_program_files_steam_steamapps_common_eve_online_tranquility
  • Windows Vista: %LOCALAPPDATA%\CCP\EVE\c_program_files_ccp_eve_tranquility
  • Windows Vista Steam: %LOCALAPPDATA%\CCP\EVE\c_program_files_steam_steamapps_common_eve_online_tranquility
  • Windows Vista 64bit: %LOCALAPPDATA%\CCP\EVE\c_program_files_(x86)_ccp_eve_tranquility
  • Windows Vista 64bit Steam: %LOCALAPPDATA%\CCP\EVE\c_program_files_(x86)_steam_steamapps_common_eve_online_tranquility

There you'll see a folder named cache, open it and the patch is listed there as one of the files.

If this fails download the patch manually from here and run it.

If patching manually fails download the latest full build and install that, you can find the latest full build here. In some cases it's helped using a download manager can help with the download but this does not apply to all cases, sometimes it's even worse. Do not use download accelerators, they do more harm than good.

If you get the same error when trying to manually patch or install the client again the cause may be with a program on your computer that's interfering with the download. This could be an anti-virus program that monitors downloads or a virus or malware that's on your computer. To be sure you are not infected with a virus or some kind of malware you can use this free online virus scanner from TrendMicro Even if you have an anti-virus program install it's developers may not have found a solution to the virus you are infected with or that the virus is so new it's not even known. Regularly updating your anti-virus program definitions and having it scan regularly for viruses and malware is suggested.

Failed installs can also be due to your hard drive not having enough free space, check this before continuing.

Also see if the following solutions help, we can't guarantee that they do but it never hurts to try.

  • Safe mode. If you're not prepared to do this, no sweat, but it's been known to help in some cases. We don't assume any responsibility for using this mode for Windows, but since it's ... well ... "Safe Mode", there is not a whole lot that can go wrong. First, you have to download the patch from here. Then reboot your computer to enter Safe mode. You can find more information on this in the Windows help files (accessible by Start -> Help or by clicking somewhere on the desktop background and pressing F1), but generally, pressing or holding F8 during startup will suffice. When you've started Windows in Safe Mode, do this: - Reinstall EVE. Keep the old patches (in the cache folder or in a folder you have chosen) safe somewhere else. - Apply the patches in the correct order, ending with the new one. - Restart in normal mode. The game should now work. You may also have to try this with the latest full build instead of simply the latest patch. The full build can be downloaded from here and if needed the patches from here.
  • Install on another computer. If you have another computer or a friend who's willing to lend a hand, install EVE on that computer and apply the patch. If everything works, simply connect that computer to your own - either by using a network connection or by taking out the hard drive and adding it to your own (as a slave), then copy the entire EVE directory over to your computer and you should be good to go.
