EjectingDefinitionEjecting from your ship means ejecting your body, inside its pod, from the ship and out into space. Your ship is left floating and uncommanded, and will not react to any attacks or commands. You can get back into your ship (or anyone else's empty ship) by using the 'Board Ship' context menu option. Safety of ships left in spaceIt is worth noting that anyone, not just you, can get into an empty ship you leave in space. Ejecting is one of the only ways to transfer ships such as motherships, which cannot dock in stations to be traded. However, the danger of such transactions between players often necessitates that a third party be involved to handle the transfer of the ship. Ejecting from your ship and leaving it in space, at a bookmarked location or anywhere else, is not a safe method for storing ships. Other players can discover the ships location through probes and various other means, and board it. By doing so they will make the ship their own property. Even ejecting from your ship for short period of time is dangerous; in less than half a minute, an experienced player can be in warp to your abandoned ship. Even if there are no players in the system, NPCs on the prowl may happen upon your ship by accident and destroy it. If you wish to ensure that your ship is safe at all times when you are not using it, never leave it out in space. The only way to make sure that your ship is completely safe is to leave it in a station. Ships at Player Owned StationsShips are often left unmanned inside the force field of POS structures. Often ships for maintaining the structure, such as repair ships or haulers, may be left there. Some corporations maintain a policy of keeping ready-to-fly combat ships inside such structures. Leaving your ship at a POS, however, is still not safe. It is, however, preferable to leaving your ship in a safespot, as the POS must be destroyed before your ship can be boarded by anyone outside of the POS security settings. For additional security, a starbase module such as a Ship Maintenance Array can be used to restrict access even further. Top Contributors For This Page |
