The Log

ISD Athechu > Welcome to Defying Fate: Finding Your Path. Here I will talk about some of the major ways to get involved in New Eden. There are four topics that I will talk about. PVP, PVE, Industry and Trade. You are welcome at any point to ask questions.
ISD Athechu > And my fellow ISD will relay them to me in here
ISD IonCharge > For anyone who hasn't done so, please join channel:Seminar Q&Ato ask questions over the course of today's event.
ISD Athechu > I will start out by talkig about Industry. industry is fairly simple to get into as you already have the very basic skills to go mining. Those that are interested in Industry typically train up their Industry and Mining skills to the fullest.
ISD Athechu > Mining is the basic building blocks for all of the industry within EVE. This allows pilots to gather the resources needed to build the needed items that they would like to buy. This can be ammo, ships, rigs, ship equipment or even capital ships.
ISD Athechu > To make your own item the first thing that you need to do is make sure that you have the correct blueprint. Unresearched blueprints can be found on the market. If you are looking for a researched blueprint or even a copy you will find those in
ISD Athechu > contracts
ISD IonCharge > Wolf2442 asks if items on the market all come from players, or are sold by NPCs too.
ISD Athechu > Wofl - Some items are seeded by NPC but a majority of the items come from players. The market is basically player run.
ISD Athechu > Once you have your blueprint you need to check the Bill of Materials. You can do so by click on Show Info and clicking on the tab. This will tell you what materials are needed in order to build that item.
ISD Athechu > For very basic items such as ammo you typically can just use what you have mined. For more advanced items such as a Player Owned-Starbase(POS) it requires more advanced materials.
ISD WolvesMind > Chomsky Aldent asks > "When you buy a blueprint, can you then make that item whenever you want or do you need to buy a new blueprint for each production run?"
ISD Athechu > Once you have created the item that you want pilots typically take it to a market hub or a region that is low on the resource and sell it there for a profit. Remember you need to take into consideration how much time you put into it,
ISD Athechu > Cost of production and minerals price
ISD Athechu > Chomsky - When you are using a blueprint it will disappear from your hanger as it is in use. A BPO or Origional has unlimited run times. a BPC or copy has a limited amount of runs on it.
ISD Athechu > Typically the best idea is to join a player corporation who specilize in Industry as they might have resources available such as an ORCA which will increase the amount that you can mine and produce.
ISD Athechu > Miners typically start out with their Cruiser class mining ship at the start and move up to a Retriever and then to a Hulk. These ships specilize in mining.
ISD Athechu > Ore can be found all over new eden but some ore can only be found in lower security systems. Ore such as Jaspet you won't find in Hi-sec systems. But ore like Veldspar you will find all over the place.
ISD Athechu > At the end of the Seminar I will provide some useful links.
ISD Athechu > Once you have put your items on the market this moves us into the next profession that you can go into.
ISD Athechu > Trade/Business
ISD Athechu > Traders basically look for those items that are low on cost in one region(or system) and move it to another system/region to sell.
ISD Athechu > Pilots typially use industry ships for this such as a Badger. When you have additional training you can move up to a fraighter as they can hold more materials.
ISD Athechu > Pilots who trade usually use Fraighters to move their goods around as they are able to hold alot of goods. The fraighters also hold GSCs( Giant secure containers) which allow more goods to be moved around.
ISD Athechu > Exploration is a hot topic and is usually something fun to do.
ISD Athechu > Scanning is something that just takes pratice. There are several types of sites that you can find while scanning. Radar, magnetometric, ladar, Gravimetric and unknown's.
ISD Athechu > Radar are the Hacking sites where you will need to use a codebreaker to get what is in the sealed can.
ISD Athechu > Magnetrometric you need to use an analyzer or a salvager. These sites can drop T2 rig blueprints and T1/T2 parts.
ISD Athechu > Ladar is where gas clouds are found. Combat boosters such as the Blue Pill can be created from gas clouds.
ISD Athechu > Gravimetric sites are hidden astroidbelts where you can find some of the rare ore.
ISD Tipene > Dominaya Aishai wants to know - Will analyzable and hackable items always look like a container?
ISD Tipene > & Meta Stasis wants to know - is the drop rate lower in high sec?
ISD Athechu > Dominaya - They might also look like wrecks in space or cargo. Just note that when you analyze something you might set off a booby-trap and damage the scanning ship.
ISD Athechu > Meta - Lower security rated systems carry more valuable resources. Which including better rewards from exploration sites.
ISD Athechu > CCP Does have a scanning video on youtube. Typically how you arrange your probes when looking for a site is in a dimond or triangle formation.
ISD Athechu > Allowing you pin down a specific point in space.
ISD Athechu > You will need to lower the scanning radius typically to 0.5 AU in order to get the best results.
ISD IonCharge > To anyone who has joined channel recently, make sure you also join the channel:Seminar Q&Ato ask questions while Athechu delivers this seminar.
ISD Athechu > For scanning you will want to train up Astrometrics, Astrometric Acquisition , Astrometric Pinpointing , Astrometric Rangefinding
ISD Athechu > I order for you to warp to a signature that you found it needs to be scanned down to 100% and then you will be able to right click and warp to the signature.
ISD IonCharge > Wirt Sleg asks what kind of hostile resistance to expect in anomalies
ISD Athechu > Wirt - Yes there can be some hostiles within the anomalies. So take the nessary precausions.
ISD IonCharge > Bane Nahrind asks if you have any tips on what type of item is a good choice for new players looking to get into manufacturing.
ISD Athechu > Bane - Ammo is typically a good start as PVP players always need ammo especially those that use Projectile, Hybrid or Missiles. Ships are another easy way to get into it as they just require minerals as well but take more minerals to create so it might
ISD Athechu > take longer to gather.
ISD Athechu > I will continue to move on to the next profession that you can do which is being a PVE or Player vs Enviroment player.
ISD Athechu > PVE is player vs Enviroment. This is basically when players go against the enviroment in EVE such as NPC pirates, Missions, Incursions, Sleepers(Wormhole Rats).
ISD Athechu > The two main PVE ways in Hi-Sec are typically Incursions and Missions. This is another good way to generate isk and to find friends and corpmates
ISD Athechu > There are four types of Missions: Security, Distribution, Mining, Research agents. Most players go after the Security agents since it involves combat and people like to pew pew.
ISD Athechu > Distribution agents offer courier and trade missions, Mining missions.....well they go mining and get ore that they need.
ISD Athechu > Research Agents provide research points that can be redeemed for data cores. Running missions for these agents increase your research point payout for a short period of time.
ISD Athechu > These are the basic mission types that can be found all over New Eden
ISD Athechu > To find agents Open your star map (F10). Star Map -> Color Stars -> My Info -> My Agents. Available agents pop up as little green dots on the map: hover your mouse over the dot to see the agent's name/department/quality and what station they're...
ISD Athechu > in
ISD Tipene > Yuthen Gaterau - WAnts to know a bit more about the progression of agents. How can he get to level 2 agents?
ISD Athechu > Missions are ranked in 5 different levels. Levels 1 - 5 where Level 1 missions are easier then Level 5 missions. In order to reach the next level mission you need to obtain the proper standings.
ISD Athechu > Level 1 missions require a 0 standing, Level 2 Missions require a 1.0 standing, Level 3 - 3.0 Level 4 - 5.0 and Level 5 - 7.0
ISD Athechu > Please note that is for faction standing or corporation standing.
ISD Athechu > So if you have a faction standing of 3.5 you will have the ability to do all of the Level 3 agents for that faction.
ISD Athechu > there are of course storyline missions that occur after completing 16 regular missions.
ISD Athechu > These missions have a great impact on your faction standings as well as corporation standings. They usually have a unique reward at the end.
ISD Athechu > Cosmos missions: Most of the Cosmos missions may only be done once, but they provide unique rewards and give a significant boost in standings. However, pilots have to find Cosmos agents inside complexes to receive such an offer.
ISD Athechu > Epic Arc missions: Epic mission arcs are composed of a series of branching missions that present the player with choices. These choices will determine how the Epic Arc concludes. These missions also increase your faction standing considerably.
ISD IonCharge > Bane Nahrnid asks about standings requirements to access new mission levels.
ISD Athechu > Bane - If you have a 0 (or lower) standing you can only access level 1 missions
ISD Athechu > Payouts is the thing that people always wonder about. CCP has set the base payout for all agents to +20. Now if you are doing a mission in a 0.8 system and do the same mission in a 0.5 system the payouts will be different
ISD Athechu > This is due to the fact that system security status is taken into consideration for payout
ISD Athechu > In hi-sec the best payout you can get is by doing a Level 4 agent in a 0.5 system.
ISD Athechu > For low sec you can run level 5 missions(which are typically done in a fleet) and get that payout.
ISD Athechu > PVP is more then likely the most attractive to most pilots. The reason for this is because you get to blow stuff up.
ISD Athechu > PVP does take some time to get into but just remember if you are interested in doing PVP there is no small task.
ISD Athechu > Fast tackle or fast ships that can lock down (with warp disruptors) are typically always needed in fleets.
ISD Athechu > So if your looking to get your first taste of combat and you can only fly a frigate then don't fear you are able to tackle a ship. This is very important as it could be the deciding factor if the ship gets away or dies.
ISD Athechu > Mercenary work is one way to gain more isk. This is where you get paid to shoot people. Typically you will find these corporations/alliances in hi-sec and few of them in low/null sec.
ISD Athechu > In the previous seminar Survival and Victory in Combat my friend ISD IonCharge talked about ways to survive in combat. I will try not to go over the same materials but you can find his information on the ISD Seminars site.
ISD IonCharge > Von Morganstein asks how one goes about becoming a mercenary.
ISD Athechu > Von - Typically the best way is to have a good killboard record to show that you can do what you say you can do. Another way is to look for a mercenary corporation that is recuriting and learn from them.
ISD IonCharge > Sheeana Harb asks if newer players can be competitive in manufacturing / industry when older players will have superior skills and blueprints.
ISD Athechu > Sheeana - Yes as it really depends on where you sell your items. You might find a system where there aren't that many items and try to sell your goods there. While bigger groups will more then likely try to sell their stuff in trade hubs.
ISD Athechu > Faction warfare is another way to get into PVP combat. This is where people fight for a specific faction. For instance Minmatar faction would be fighting Amarr due to the bad blood between them. Faction warfare is a different way then the typical way
ISD Athechu > of players seeing combat.
ISD Athechu > To find any corporations/alliances check the in-game recruiting channel (Click the Chat bubble at the top right of this window) also see https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=topics&f=265
ISD Athechu > As it's close to time I will take questions.
ISD Tipene > One question from earlier sephitious > hey ISD's when you get time, Do a lot of players have trouble selecting a career path? i know that i can do most things in eve so far..... just wondering.
ISD Tipene > and wolf2442 wants to know about doing missions with the npcs pirates
ISD Athechu > Since there is so much to do in EVE players sometimes have a hard time deciding what to do at first. So it can become difficult but once you select a path it gets easier. And if you don't like the path you took you can always change it up
ISD Athechu > Wolf - As far as I am aware you cannot join NPC Pirate groups.
ISD IonCharge > Auron Tezaki asks, which are the important skills for someone looking to get into FW
ISD Athechu > Wofl - But you can do missions with them but they are based out in 0.0 space so have to be very careful
ISD Athechu > Auron - Tankability, Gunnery, and drone skills are important. Need to be able to survive a combat encounter as well as destroy your enemies.
ISD Athechu > If you have a specific question about tanking your welcome to look at Survival and Victory in Combat on the ISD Seminar site as ISD Ioncharge went over that.
ISD IonCharge > The seminars wiki page is at http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/ISD_Seminars
ISD Tipene > Auron wants to know if having logistics capabilites would make him usefull in faction warfare?
ISD Athechu > Auron - Logistics would make you useful anywhere. If it's in Faction warfare or null sec or low sec or even Hi-sec empire space. Even Incurion groups look for good logistic pilots.
ISD IonCharge > Wolf and Bane ask if pirating is a viable and worthwhile career choice for newer pilots, and how to get into it.
ISD Athechu > Player pirates typically hangout in Low Sec space and typically go down to -10 security status. As a career choice it might not be the best one as when you get to lower security status it makes it harder for you to get resources without someone
ISD Athechu > bringing them to you.
ISD Athechu > But if it is something your looking to do you need to be able to tank the gate gun fire that is found in low sec.
ISD Athechu > As I said in the beginning i will post some helpful links from the wiki
