DUST514 Survey

End of March 2012 at EVE Fanfest in Iceland CCP has revealed DUST 514 - an upcoming PlayStation 3 FPS set in the world of EVE Online. This year's Eve Fanfest was the first chance that anybody has had to actually play DUST 514. Due to unique concept of cross-platform interactions and successful proof of the feasibility of this concept, the game has attracted a lot of media attention thereafter. Consequently, CCP has conducted a survey among EVE players to estimate the level of awareness about DUST 514 and the likelihood of them to play the game when it is released.

Summary:
Majority of EVE Online players are aware of DUST 514; rather few, however, have tried it so far. 71% of respondents are likely to give it a try when the game comes out.
In general, the feedback from the players that have tried DUST is very positive and supports the idea of the game being attractive at first sight, even to players that do not currently play console games. Though, the latter might have lower determination to download and play it when DUST comes out, especially if they do not own a PS3 in their household.

DUST 514 will be PS3 exclusive; therefore it was interesting to learn where EVE community stands in terms of PS3 ownership. According to the survey about 50% of the players own PS3 in their households, which makes it the most owned gaming device outside of PC.

Two thirds of EVE players play console games at the moment. On average they spend 9 hours a week playing them.

Greater majority of EVE players (97%) have heard of DUST 514 by now, though, only 3% of respondents to this survey have had a chance to try it out.

Majority (three quarters) of those players who tried the game, appear to have liked it; and about a half liked it very much.

Two thirds of the players, who tried DUST, thought that the pacing of the game was just fine. However, respondents that currently do not play other FPS games, are likely to judge the pacing as being somewhat too fast.

71% of the respondents are likely to play the game when it becomes available on the PlayStation Store. Likelihood of console game players to download and play the game is much higher than that of non-consolers, and it’s particularly high among players, who generally play FPS games. Also, respondents that have tried DUST 514 already are more positive about playing the game in the future.

In addition, 72% of the respondents are likely to recommend DUST 514 to their friends, which supports the idea of the game having a great appeal.
