Cosmic Signatures are a part of the Exploration feature in Eve Online accessible to players able to equip and operate a scan probe launcher.

What is a Cosmic Signature?

Much like a Cosmic Anomaly, a Cosmic Signature is a hidden site. However, each Cosmic Signature is one of five possible types:

  • Gravimetric: Hidden asteroid belts. Mining sites containing ores of rarer types and/or larger asteroids than the belts native to that system.
  • Ladar: Gas Cloud sites for mining gas.
  • Magnetometric: Archaeology/Salvage profession sites.
  • Radar: Hacking profession sites.
  • Unknown: Everything not covered by Gravimetric, Ladar, Magnometric and Radar including:
    • Wormholes. These lead to other systems, either in K-space (Known-space) or W-space (Wormhole-space).
    • DED Complexes. Rated on a scale of 1-10 (you'll receive a message when you warp to the gate with their rating), these complexes do not escalate, but the final overseer has an excellent chance of dropping deadspace items, along with a small chance of dropping a faction ship BPC.
    • Unrated Complexes. These often have a commander spawn, and can escalate, eventually culminating in an NPC which drops deadspace items.

Unlike cosmic anomalies, Cosmic Signatures can appear in a Deadspace zone. Cosmic signature encounters are more difficult than their cosmic anomaly counterparts and can give substantial rewards. There is a varying possibility of NPC faction commanders appearing or triggering of escalations.

Some Cosmic Anomalies may escalate into a known Cosmic Signature, like the "Guristas Yard" Anomaly can escalate into a 6/10 DED Guristas Troop Reinvigoration Camp complex.

How can I find a Cosmic Signature?

Cosmic signatures are found using a set of probes in combination with a probe launcher. Using probes, the scanner will tell if a Cosmic Signature is within range of any probes.

Please note: Rescanning with multiple probes using various locations and scan strengths may be necessary to pinpoint a Cosmic Signature's location.
Please note: It is not possible to scan down a Cosmic Signature with an on-board scanner.
Please note: Cosmic signatures are designed to appear within 10 AU of planets.
