Connection losses caused by third party softwareConnection losses caused by third party softwareHow can I verify that connection losses are not caused by third party applications? Connection issues can be caused by third party LSPs (Layered Service Providers). LSPs hook into Winsock, and if they are not written properly, may cause connection problems. Software firewall applications, some instant messaging add-ons, spyware and adware are known to hook into Winsock using an LSP. The solution to such connectivity issues is to identify and update the application causing the problem. Important: The following information contains references and links to third-party web sites and products. The information and links are provided solely as a convenience to you and not as an endorsement by CCP. CCP is not responsible for the content of linked third party web-sites, or the behavior of the tools mentioned below. If you decide to access linked third-party web sites, or use third-party tools, you do so at your own risk. PeerGuardian and PeerBlock have CCP on its Anti-P2P block list. Therefore, you must disable the list or the application before connecting (or just add the list Crowd Control Productions to allow). To address LSP issues with spyware and adware install and run Microsoft Defender, Microsoft Security Essentials or AdAware. Another option is to use LSP-Fix. If you are a very experienced user you may want to evaluate the following information. It is possible to reset Winsock on Windows XP SP2 by following the resolution steps given in Microsoft KB article 892350. For Windows XP and Windows XP SP1 you can use one of the resolutions given in Microsoft KB article 817571. Top Contributors For This Page |
