Choosing Race
Before embarking on your first journey into EVE Online, you must first configure your character's appearance and identity. The first step is to choose the race of your character.
A unique name and appearance, created by you, identifies your character. During character creation you select your gender and race. The character creation tools offer you the opportunity to customize your characters body and facial features. The final result is your character avatar and portrait, which is visible to other players in several ways, including on our message boards and in-game chat channels.
When you log in for the first time, the first screen you will see is the "Choose Your Race" screen. You will have the option of creating up to three characters in total later on, rather than just one, so you can experiment with finding the character look that suits your tastes. When you have completed the creation process, you will be ushered straight into the game. You will then be greeted with a character selection screen when you log into the game in the future.
Please note: Take your time in creating a character and selecting a character name that you are happy with. Aesthetics can be adjusted somewhat after character creation, but your character's basic body shape and character name can not be changed after they have been finalized. You may be enjoying and developing your character for a long time so it is worth spending time on making sure that you are happy with your creation.
Players may choose to portray a character from one of the four major Empire races, with each race containing three bloodlines. It is worth noting that this is only a choice of aesthetics and starting location. You are otherwise free to pursue your own future independent of the Empire races and their factions.
Basic information is available for each of the four playable races by clicking the icon for each race. This provides a short video and more information about the race will be shown. This information will help you determine which race to select for your character. Each race offers numerous variations in skills and abilities, as well as adhering to its own doctrine. Below is a short description of each race.
The Amarr Empire
The Amarr Empire is the largest and oldest of the four empires. Ruled by a mighty God-Emperor, this vast theocratic society is supported by a broad foundation of slave labor. Amarrian citizens tend to be highly educated and fervent individuals, and as a culture Amarr adheres to the basic tenet that what others call slavery is in fact one step on a indentured person's spiritual path toward fully embracing their faith. Despite several setbacks in recent history, the Empire remains arguably the most stable and militarily powerful nation-state in New Eden.

Amarrians
True Amarrians are proud and supercilious, with a great sense of tradition and ancestry. They are arrogant and tyrannical by most others. The Empire's defeat at the hands of the mysterious Jovians, and the Minmatar uprising that followed, left an indelible mark on Amarrian culture. This double failure, a turning point in their history, has shaped an entire generation of policy and philosophy among the imperial elite.

|
Ni-Kunnis
With the exception of the Khanid, the Ni-Kunni were assimilated into Amarr society far more easily than the majority of Amarrian conquests. Conequered more than 1000 years ago by the Amarr Empire, they are not generally considered "enslaved" anymore. Most Ni-Kunni are tradesmen and artisans - occupations traditionally eschewed by true Amarrians, but still considered a vital part of their society.
|
|
Swept up by the Amarr's message of faith during the original Reclaiming, the Khanid were for centuries exalted members of Amarr society, until a bitter feud between the Empire and a Khanid heir forced a secession which led to the creation of the independent Khanid Kingdom. The Khanid have since come back into the fold, bringing an infusion of cultural and technological knowledge into their ancestral Empire.

The Caldari State
Founded on the tenets of patriotism and hard work that carried its ancestors through hardships on an inhospitable homeworld, the Caldari State is today a corporate dictatorship, led by rulers who are determined to see it return to the meritocratic ideals of old. Ruthless and efficient in the boardroom as well as on the battlefield, the Caldari are living emblems of strength, persistence and dignity.
|
The Deteis are regarded as the face of leadership in Caldari society. Commonly possessed of sharp, ordered minds and articulate tongues, they are mostly found in positions of authority within military and political spheres. Driven by the cultural premise that the good of the whole must come before the needs of the individual, they have made the responsibility of upholding the integrity of the entire Caldari State their own.

|
Whether engaged in trade or combat, the Civire are absolute masters of focused aggression. Highly competitive individuals, they thrive under chaotic circumstances and frenetic activity. They are often employed in highly stressful industrial and military professions due to an innate ability to think quickly on their feet and remain composed under pressure.
|
|
Achura has been part of the Caldari State for three centuries, and yet their culture has always remained something of a mystery. Originally from the Saisio System, they are reclusive and introverted, and show little interest in the ephemeral phenomena of the material world. Intensely spiritual, Achura pilots of have only recently taken to the stars, driven in large part by a desire to unlock the secrets of the universe.

The Gallente Federation
Champions of liberity and defenders of the downtrodden, the Gallente play host to the only true democracy in new Eden. Some of the most progressive leaders, scientists and businessmen of the era have emerged from its diverse peoples. A pioneer of artificial intelligence, the Federation relies heavily on drones and other automated systems. This is not to detract from the skill of their pilots, though; the Gallente Federation is known for producing some of the best and bravest the universe has to offer.
|
Gallente
Gallenteans value freedom and individual liberty above all else. Founders of the the only true democracy of New Eden, they have created an ethnically diverse, culturally rich, progressive society that encourages enterprise and initiative in its citizens. While slow to anger and occasionally indecisive, they are also capable of harnessing enormous military and economic resolve when truly tested.

|
Intakis
The Intaki are one of the largest ethnicities of the Federation. Exceedingly gifted communicators, they are prominent among the Federal bureaucracy. Though mostly assimilated into Gallente culture, they still cling to their own identities and beliefs, most notably their unusual theories regarding death and rebirth. These theories give them a unique outlook on life and the living, and many attribute the Intaki's stoic nature to the philosophy.

|
Jin - Mei
The nation of the Jin-Mei is the latest addition to the Federation. They took to the stars comparatively late, as it took generations for them to transform from their rigorous caste system enough for qualified people not to be excluded through class-based discrimination. Despite being at odds with the libertarian culture of the Gallente, the caste system has not been completely eliminated, nor is it likely to be further discouraged by the Federal government due to its cultural implications.

The Minmatar Republic
Once a thriving tribal civilization, the Minmatar were enslaved by the Amarr Empire for more than 700 years until a massive rebellion freed most, but not all, of those held in servitude. The Minmatar people today are resilient, ingenious, and hard-working. Many of them believe that democracy, though it has served them well for a long time, can never restore what was taken from them so long ago. For this reason they have formed a government truly reflective of their tribal roots. They will forever resent the Amarrians, and yearn for the days before the Empire's accursed ships ever reached their home skies.

Sebiestors
Widely respected as some of the cluster's most innovative thinkers, the Sebiestor are an ingenious people with a natural fondness for engineering. For the last millennium they have pioneered advances in applied sciences, despite laboring under chronic material shortages. They can be found in professions ranging from doctors to mystics, scholars to merchants. Their quiet work ethic and widespread family clans allow them unlimited social mobility in the Republic, with access to both the best and the worst that society has to offer.

Selecting a Bloodline and Gender
After you have selected your race, the next step is to select a bloodline and then your character's gender.
Your choice of race, bloodline and gender, only influences your appearance. These choices have no effect on in-game-abilities like skills, but they are providing some background for your character, specially for role playing. It does affect which race's frigates you will start out able to fly, but you are free in pursuing training in the ships of any of the races. Your choice of race, bloodline or gender will never be a limiting factor for you in EVE Online.
Creating Your Character
Customizing your appearance is a two step process. First you tweak your characters physical appearance; basic shape of the body and face and other physical aesthetics. You will also choose your character's basic attire which will be their default choice in the future. Secondly you set up a pose for your character to create his or her portrait to represent your character in chat channels and on the EVE Online message boards.

Customizing Appearance
The EVE Online character creator will allow you to simply hover your mouse over a part of your character's body, clicking and dragging the body part into the shape you want. You can zoom out to adjust the whole body or zoom in to manipulate the fine details. This allows for an incredibly diverse options for physical appearance for each race and bloodline.
You have a lot of options available to you to alter details, such as eye colour, hair and clothing. You can also randomize your appearance, which can be a good place to start if you feel a little overwhelmed with the options. The customization options are split into 7 categories on the right hand side of the character creator window, detailed briefly below.

- Body Modifications - This category contains 3 sub-categories for piercings, tattoos and scars. Click the Body Modifications category again to gain access to the other options again.
You can also undo individual changes by back-tracking with the History bar at the bottom of the screen. Made the nose too big and can't seem to find the shape you had before? You can use the history bar to skip back a little bit and fix it.
The options to change gender, bloodline and even race are also available on the left hand side of the screen during character customization.
Once you are happy with your creation you can click on the Next button in the lower right corner and proceed to create your character's portrait. If you want to revisit your previous choices you can always click on the Back button to go and undo any changes you may have second thoughts about.

There are a few options available to you to customize your portrait, outlined below.
- Backgrounds - Select the background you find most pleasing and appropriate to your character.
- Poses - You have a selection of a few basic poses for you to work from when creating your portrait.
- Lights - Set the lighting for your character to make your portrait just like you want it. You can make the light harsher or softer in this menu as well.
You can take snapshots of your character by clicking on one of the four camera icons on the left hand side of the screen. This saves the snapshot and allows you to continue tweaking your portrait and take further snapshots down the line. You can also reset your character's expression if you feel that you need to start from scratch again.
When you are done you can either double click on the snapshot that you like the most or you can simply click on Next at the bottom right of the screen if you are happy with the lights and pose you have in front of you. This brings you to the final step of the character creation process.

Finalizing Your Character
This is the final step of creating your elite spaceship pilot. You will get to choose your character's ancestry and education. Don't worry about these choices too much as they are for flavour only, to give your character a bit of a background. Most important is that you must decide on a name for your character.
Warning: Take your time in selecting the name for your character. Once chosen it can not be changed or altered in any way. There are currently no name changing services in EVE Online so your chosen name will be absolutely final!
Once you are happy with your name, click on Finalize and you will be asked to confirm if you are happy with your portrait. You can still back up at this point and make any last minute changes. Click Ok and your capsuleer career will be underway!
