| I have watched as we catalogued an entire group of artifacts in only a few hours. The mere mention of donating ISK or resources is met with immediate funding and assistance. We have a budget now of over 1B ISK, and potentially triple that if the need arises, it would seem. This is before even considering the probably vast resources of many members who would also willingly donate.
Yet I have also seen how, as we grow, bottlenecks are developing at times in the Arek'Jaalan fluid router network. The influx of ideas, theories, and information is often overwhelming, even for capsuleers whose minds are trained to better handle such heavy flows of information. Debates on single topics can dominate a channel that is intended to house many more than one. The mailing list is similarly struggling to maintain the flow of information, even as it serves us admirably in these early days.
It is hard not to feel as if we are missing some voices, and by virtue of that, we are losing people as they turn their backs on the long road before us.
We are rich in knowledge and ISK, but we are desperately poor in organization, and in the documentation of theories, data and accumulated knowledge. Many have already voiced their frustrations with the at times chaotic beginnings the Arek'Jaalan project has taken. For that, I take full responsibility, but will state again the importance of simply beginning at all.
While the Phase I catalogue is being archived and analysed by the Eifyr teams, I suggest our focus in the immediate future shift somewhat.
Let us consider ideas about how better to organize.
I raised the topic briefly in the channel, and various ideas were proposed. To help start people thinking, and form a basis for discussion, these are some of the notions put forward, in no particular order.
Representatives: Capsuleers who can represent the Arek'Jaalan collective, in order that we might communicate with a singular voice.
Research Divisions: Fragmentation of research areas into more manageable sizes. Potentially allows for things such as "Project Leads" and individualized comms networks.
Salaried archivist positions and paid documentation work: Perhaps a good use for some of the ISK we have would be to fund the documentation of theories, compile logs of the Arek'Jaalan mailing list, and so. Mr Aldrith Shutaq suggested it would be akin to "Well paid capsuleer secretaries". Although of course we would need a broader range of staff; archivists, historians, journalists, documenters, analysts, the list goes on.
Primers: Newly-arriving capsuleers may have little to no knowledge of the current research into the Sleepers, or what is known and unknown. A "primer" document could prove invaluable as a method of informing the wider capsuleer populace. Who knows what allies we might create from such a thing.
Since the Arek'Jaalan project is a capsuleer collective, it only makes sense that the capsuleers who constitute it form this framework. Eifyr and myself will be on hand to assist in realizing it, however we can.
